Is employer-based insurance for franchises typically provided by the franchisee or franchisor?

Okay,

I'm in a situation where I need employer-based group insurance from a company headquartered in my home state of Indiana (don't ask why - just accept it as fact).

If my wife applies for a job at a franchise, such as McDonalds Ford, or Merry Maids does the franchisee buy/negotiate the health insurance policy, or does the corporate headquarters do so? For me, it is critical that the franchisee do it, as the franchisor will likely be out of state.

  1. It's the franchisee.  IF they choose to offer it.  And they don't have to.

  2. If the franchise location is locally owned the insurance could be arranged through an agent in Indiana with a carrier domiciled in Indiana. However that agent might also have access to companies that are licensed to operate in Indiana but have their home offices (or headquarters) in States other than Indiana.

If the franchise location is company owned then the insurance would likely be through a national carrier that could insure locations all over the United States. That "national company" may or may not be headquartered in Indiana.

Sorry, no way to answer your question with any certainty.
