Wouldn't it just be like not having a router? Cause I have still have software firewalls.

  1. DMZ is used only when you want to keep a server inside your private network and that server is accessible to public.

Unless, do not use, yes it is like not having the firewall.

  2. In the networking world, a DMZ is used for servers that need to be publicly available, like a webserver or email server.  In the home environment this is completely unnecessary, and not the safest way to run things unless you really know what you're doing.

It would essentially be just like running without a router, but the whole point of a router is to protect you from unsolicited traffic on the internet.  Without the router/hardware firewall, you are susceptible to any internet radiation/traffic that could potentially use a flaw in windows to get into your computer.

I wouldn't recommend running this way.

  3. It just means that the router isn't firewalling you. You should be fine with a software firewall. I keep my computer DMZ'd all the time.
