  1. yes england is in the british isles. england, northern island, scotland, and wales makes up the british isles

  2. yes it is the british isles is basically the uk

  3. This is from the lonely planet travel guide to Great Britain:

"The countries of England, Wales, and Scotland make up the state of Great Britain.  Three countries in one might seem a strange setup, and visitors are sometimes confused about the difference between England and Britain -- as are a lot of English people (although the Welsh and Scots are clear on the distinction).  But getting a grip on this basic principle will ease your understanding of British history and culture, and make your travel more enjoyable too.

Just for the record, the United Kingdom (UK) consists of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.  The island of Ireland consists of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland (also called Eire).  'British Isles' is a geographical term for the whole group of islands that make up the UK, the Republic of Ireland, and some autonomous or semiautonomous islands such as the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man."

  4. The Brittish Isles consists of  the islands the island of Britain and the island of Ireland and all their offshore islands like the Shetlands and Isle of man.

The island of Britain consists of England, Scotland, Wales and all their offshore islands.

The island of Ireland consists of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

The UK ( United Kingdom) / GB (Great Britain) or The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland consists of England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland includes the Scottish island like the Hebrides, Orkneys, Shetlands. Is also includes the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.

The Republic of Ireland is an independent nation which occupies 3/4 of the island of Ireland.

Also take into account that Scotand and Northern Ireland now have their own devolved parliaments and the Welsh have an assembly. England does not have its own parliament and is represented only by the Brittish parlaiament. The Isle of Man also has a very ancient parliament with less ties to the UK than say Scotland or Wales. It also has its own currency.

In the Brittish Isles TWO passports exist - A Brittish one and an Irish one, people in Northern Ireland have dual nationality, there is no Scottish, English or Welsh or Northern I rish passport. Although a temporary Scottish passport did exist up unti the late 70s.
