  1. The Euro is NOT widely accepted in Switzerland, they

use Swiss francs only.  (They just like to be different, I think...)

    It just makes things harder.

  2. yes, but yes

In my experience (I've been in Switzerland about as long as the Euro's been around), the Euro is accepted in all hotels, most medium-to-large restaurants, department stores and train stations (including the shops in most train stations), plus really touristy places. Also Euro coins are accepted in a lot of public toilets and phone booths, but often at par. The Euro won't likely be accepted in grocery stores, on the bus, little corner restaurants, or other places clearly targetted at locals.

Still, you'll most likely get an unfavourable exchange rate at most of the above, and in some cases you'll get your change in francs, so my advice is if you're here for more than a weekend, plan to carry francs.

  3. Most MAJOR stores will take Euro (like Manor), but Swiss Francs will be the one to have there.

Cannot go to a restaurant and pay in Euro, they won't accept it.

  4. as a general rule, lets just say that you CAN use euros at the majority of places in switzerland (from my experience).  you do not, however, want to..

you will find the exchange rates to be ridiculous!  that is if they dont just make them up on the spot.  me and these two canadian girls wanted to pay for our 131 franc debt to the bar in euros, expecting something like a 75-80 euro bill - 105 euros..  just ridiculous.

it can help you in a tight situation, but dont rely on it for too long

i think its a subtle measure by the swiss to ensure that they remain the banking capital and dont corrupt their pool :p

  5. SInce Switzerladn is not part of the EU they dont't have euros. Though a few touristy places accept it, you defenitly need swiss francs in switzerland!
