  1. I used to do the drawings to accompany editorials for an national nursing journal.  I've also done the artwork for several doctors slide presentations, and for my own medical textbooks I've authored.

My children and one of my grandsons have won multiple art awards over the years, and I come from a family of architects, cartoonists, even one cousin who did Audobon Society drawings for match boxes. I also do oil painting as a hobby, and one of my daughters sculpts and designs jewelry.

So, yeah, I guess we are artistic!

  2. I've often wondered this, since my entire barn used to ride (obvs..) and always had some art/photography project going on..

and i like plain graphite for traditional work, and my drawing pad and Art Rage2 (free) for computer based work.

i can't stand watercolors or acrylics, but i used to be good at them.  My all time favorite is oils though, i just never have the patience to start and finish on (i have 3 half one dones right now!)

  3. No, not at all.

  4. I've met a TON of horse people who are quite artistically talented in one way or another (painting, ceramics, drawing, etc). I don't know if that is just coincidental or what (or perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I go to art school and there are just a number of fellow students who love horses as well, haha).

I'd say my favorite mediums are charcoal and pen/ink. I really really love glassblowing and metalworking though as well. I want to do everything, haha.

My mom loves horses, and used to do a lot of fibers work (mostly crocheting). That's artsy in it's own right.

  5. No! I'm not! I wish I could draw of something! LOL Mine are stick men! LOL

  6. I am and have always been artistic; my mediums are pretty much everything except oils (I am way too impatient to wait for them to dry)!  I love sculpting the most, probably because it comes the most easily to me.  I've also been doing collage work lately - I am new to it, but it's good for "zoning out" and relaxing.

Sadly there are no other horse lovers in my family, though there are a few professional artists and an art teacher.

  7. I guess I would call myself artsy, I love to paint with acrylics and watercolors and draw with chalks and oil pastels.

I am also crafty, I invent ways to fix things with what I have or try to make something neat or pretty for the house out of my horse stuff.

  8. Usually they are!

I won the State 4-H horse show's painting and drawing portion for the past two years!

All of my horsey friends are either great photographers or poets or story writters or something!

Leonardo Da Vinci did once say that if you can draw a human hand and a horse, you can draw anything!

  9. I'm more crafty than artistic. I can turn a twisted shoe into a bridle hook, I can turn a broken tack box into a flower pot, I can turn that water tub the horses just destroyed into a water obstacle...

All sorts of stuff to avoid having to throw something away because it couldn't fulfill its designated function.

    Maybe "thrifty" is the word.

  10. Good grief no. My matchstick men are even awful. However my mum is an awesome animal artist and she's horsey.  My mum uses chalks, pastels and acrylics. I can sing though but that doesn't really count does it!!!

  11. h**l to the no i cant even draw a straight line ask the art teach from school many of us "horsey poeple" hardly have time for anything eles and alot of us  play sports and what are meidus things only thing i have used is stuuf in a box from walmart

  12. I love art, well looking at beautiful things. I cant draw for toffee, although I am pretty handy with stencils and stuff like that.

  13. I carve leather.

I actually got into carving after I started doing my own repairs.  That led to repairs for others and that led to carving and tooling.

My brother and sister went to college on art scholarships.   Pastels on velour is one of my favorite mediums.

I'm in the design stage of a headstall, rawhide and bead work, for my new Spanish Mustang.

  14. I have been involved with horses for as long back as I can remember.   from barely able to sit up to hardly able to make my knees work to get on....and i am not a bit artistic.   I cant even make a good stick figure.   so ....
