ok, this isn't really a question, but tell me your opinion.

alright, ill start out with, i live in new jersey.

we have so many mean, cruel, violent people around. Every once in a lifetime you see someone who's nice to you.

My sister lives in indiana with her husband and two kids, so we just recently were up in dunkirk indiana, visiting.

Instead of getting a nice hotel, my dad decided we could camp out.

So we went to a camp site. The guy owned about 15 acres, a few little lakes, and a patch of woods.

The spot we wanted was mowed, but the spot next to it wasn't, and he didn't want us to have to be next to the tall grass, so the owner of the camp site, mowed it for us. :O

and then, my dad was talking about the lakes, and was wondering about fishing. So the guy said, your going to be fishing? oh, ill mow around the lake for you, so he got his lawn mower out again, and mowed everywhere. This 70 year old guy, was mowing it for us. :O just because we said we like fishing. [not me, my dad] Then, when we asked where a store was so we could buy an extension cord for the electric there, he gave us his extension cord. Before he had gotten it to us, the neighbors noticed we were talking about it, so they offered us THEIR extension cord.

There was a stray dog walking around the camp site, acting friendly, so me and my cousin decided to ask the neighbors if it was theres, they said no. [it was following us around, so we just kept going, trailer to traier]

everyone said it had been wandering around for weeks.

it was a stray, so we convinced the owner to take care of it, and have it as a pet there, and he did.

also, not just the adults are nice there, the kids are poliet too,

we went to a pool, where you pay to go in....

and so we did, and when we were in the pool, these kids came up to us, and were like, "were going to play marco polo want to play" and we were SHOCKED, the people from new jersey would probably drown you if you ever asked that. it was amazing how kind everyone was...

ok, i could just go on and on. xD so i guess i should ask for your opinion now.

  1. Hey I'm from Elkhart.. It's true that a lot of people are welcoming up here. Don't get me wrong, we have plenty of not so nice people to argue.. but for the most part i think we do pretty well. Heck! sometimes im still amazed at how nice some people can be. Not a bad place to live. :) Hope you come back!

  2. Yes, there are plenty of hospitable people in Indiana. Sadly, not as many as there use to be. Always remember to be cautious, because some of the nicest people can fool you.

  3. I've lived in Indiana all my live (with an exception of 4 months).  I love Indiana.  For the most part we are a pretty happy bunch.

  4. I love Hoosiers!! In general, I think midwesterners are friendly, laid back people. No, not every single person you come across are nice, that's just life, but there are lots of nice people in Indiana! I had to move out of state 2 months ago because of my husband's job. I miss my fellow Hoosiers like crazy! I'm glad you had such a good experience there.

  5. Not in northwest Indiana.

  6. Ha ha ha! I have to laugh because I moved from Boston to Indiana and was just amazed at how different it was. People will wave to you when they drive by - they don't even know you! If you're walking down the street total strangers will stop and offer you a ride. Not in a "come here little girl want some candy?" way but in an honest to goodness "I'm trying to be nice" way. It really took some getting used to. But now when I go "back east" to visit I see how much nicer it is in Indiana. That's not to say you won't run into the ignorant redneck now and then (way more than you would on the east coast) but overall people do seem to be a bit nicer in Indiana.

  7. As someone else mentioned, there is definitely Hoosier Hospitality here.  While there are some not so nice people here (just like anywhere else I guess), there are lots of nice people here as well.  I've lived in Indiana my whole life and didn't believe Hoosier Hospitality was real until I went on a trip to the East Coast (not saying where)...some people there (not saying everybody - not fair to generalize!) were definitely not polite and did not go out of their way to be nice.  After that, I was a believer in Hoosier Hospitality!

  8. Hi,

i'm from Turkey and salute from Turkey!

  9. Glad you enjoyed your trip to Indiana.  We call it Hoosier Hospitality.

I bet as you were driving around, someone somewhere waved at you for no reason at all too.  We're not all like that, but when you get into smaller towns you will find people don't care where you are from...you're just always welcomed.
