  1. Yes. In Japan, people knew that humpback whales are banned. English news is a little slow.

But basically Japan follows IWC rules. IWC don't ban whole whaling. IWC and Japan know not whole whales are endangered.

Alaskan Inuits and Makah race in WA also has the right to do whaling.

INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION FOR THE REGULATION OF WHALING

    Article VIII

    1. Notwithstanding anything contained in this Convention any Contracting Government may grant to any of its nationals a special permit authorizing that national to kill, take and treat whales for purposes of scientific research subject to such restrictions as to number and subject to such other conditions as the Contracting Government thinks fit, and the killing, taking, and treating of whales in accordance with the provisions of this Article shall be exempt from the operation of this Convention. Each Contracting Government shall report at once to the Commission all such authorizations which it has granted. Each Contracting Government may at any time revoke any such special permit which it has granted.

    2. Any whales taken under these special permits shall so far as practicable be processed and the proceeds shall be dealt with in accordance with directions issued by the Government by which the permit was granted.

  2. Yes, I am.

  3. yes

  4. I am, those poor cute creature deserve to live free

  5. yes!!!!!! why would we not be??????? it wouldn't make any since if we were not happy for no reason in particular

  6. It's a first step, now they need to quit whaling altogether, there just is nothing to justify it.

  7. I'm sad, I was looking forward to some fresh whale meat.  It's very tasty.

  8. I am very happy. Killing whales just seems so wrong to me.

However, I don't like how hypocritical America and other western countries can be. How is it ok for us to slaughter cows and pigs everyday—but in other cultures killing those animals is wrong. Have you seen other countries come here and tell us what to do?

    Nope.

It's all about culture. Our culture and others frown on killing animals like whales, dogs, and cats—while others don't.

It's just who we are. I am glad that they've stopped. But I don't expect them to change their views just because we're forcing them to.

  9. Yes. There is no reason for killing them, especially since they are endangered

I hope this is the first step to abandoning this practice because it is just disgusting

  10. I guess I won`t be swimming in the ocean for a year
