Is everyone tired of hearing about how bad San Antonio is?

A certain gentleman, from Portland has been posting numerous responses on the YA San Antonio Travel site discussing how he was displeased with his visit in San Antonio.

I am sure that not everyone who visits evey city has a favorable impression of the cities they visit. Yet, most of us do not then spend the future complaining about the visit endlessly.

This is a man who wanted to buy a home on the east side neat the cemeteries of Houston Street, and then decide that all the buildings and homes in the city are dilapidated shacks. I'm sure that every home and building in Portland is sparkling and new (which must have changed since I was there) and I do not deny that there are some rather old buildings in disrepair in some parts of the city, However, there are also a majority of buildings and homes which are beautiful and in excellent shape, and probably many which exceed the fine standard set by Portland. Incidentally, as Portland has none of the people on Forbes's List, yet San Antonio has several, I'm sure those were some of the shacks he missed.

Also he did in his week in the city take the time to find out that the 1.9 million people in the Greater San Antonio area are all rude.

I can only say, that if being rude to him manage to get him to move to Austin, then we did our job well.

Does anyone agree that he should just enjoy his life in Austin, and leave this site alone?

I lived in the Pacific Northwest for 2 of the longest years of my life and there is not enough money in the world to make me move back to that part of the world.  The cost of living in that part of the world is outrageous.  Just consider the source and take it with a grain of salt.  Anything the guy has to say is not worth listening to.

I also noticed he has all his questions and answers hidden. I'm guessing he has nothing positive to say about anything.

Well,I don't think any city should get "slammed".Every city has it's good and bad sides.I've lived in Los Angeles,Las Vegas,San Francisco and other towns.I've been in San Antonio for a number of years now.I do struggle here with finding a decent job.I've also found that I seem to run into a lot of very rude,crude people.I've been yelled at for walking down the street,had soda bottles and cans thrown at me and have had people drive right against the curb in the rain to splash me,then they yell something like F--- you,get a car!.. at me.I think San Antonio is a cheaper place to live,it has nice grocery stores and I like how everything is shaped like the state (chips,food items).It has it's pro's and con's.I don't think you should disrespect a city if you don't like it though.You can give honest opinions without being mean.My own personal time here in S.A. has been hard but I would take this place over Vegas,LA or Frisco any day.As said above,the cost of living is cheaper,and as far as downtown being full of old buildings,They are slowly building up downtown and I'm sure S.A. will continue to grow.It's not for everybody, but everyone has a reason for being proud of their town and others should respect their pride.Texas I've found has it's quirks and the people have cocky-pride in their state and cities but to each their own,if you don't like it,don't visit or move here but there is no need to just point out the bad things in San Antonio.

I would agree that when visiting or even moving to a new city, it is always best to look for the positive aspects of a community.  No matter where you move there will be some parts of the city or town that are bad, but most places also have good aspects as well.

I have also found that there is rarely a predominance of rude people in any city.  Of course, I have also noticed that people react to the attitudes they are receiving.  So if a person is rude or acting rudely, then people will be rude in return.

Every town has some rude and ignorant people.  But most also have great people who go out of their way to be helpful.  Every major city has gangs, and buildings which need repair.

When visiting Philadelphia, I saw some nice places, but much of the city was in need of rehabilitation, cars were double parked, and you had to wait for someone to move so you could get your car out.  Still, I think it is a nice place to visit, and I don't spend my time on the YA Philadelphia site telling people to stay away.

I think SA gets a raw deal with that kind of thing. While I left San Antonio, I do like to come back and visit. Houston gets the same lack of respect as y'all do.

If he was from Portland, that guy would probably be far happier in "the blue dot" (Austin) anyway. Austin is known as the "blue dot in the middle of a red state" for a reason. Why this guy only looked at East Houston Street is odd, too. Maybe that's all he saw from 410 as he whizzed by (trying to figure how he got off 35)? Downtown SA has a nice collection of Art Deco buildings not found anywhere else in Texas. My wife went a little nutsy photographing the Tower Life building from a number of different angles, and then setting up night shots. The closest thing is the State Fairgrounds in Dallas, built around the same period.

Given my choice between San Antonio and Austin, Austin loses every time.

Someone has to give an honest answer, since noone did when i was asking  questions about SA .

My opinion of your "city" seems to be the general concensus from former residents and tourists alike and they all cite the exact same reasons.

So if i dissuade even one person from wasting their time and money in that place ive done a public service.

although i disagree portland vs Sa i only moved because the cost of living.

Portlands "bad side" has been almost entirely renovated and I cant recall the last time I saw an abandoned building,as for culture ,nightlife,cleanliness forget about it Sa has nothing on portland.

I know exactly who your are talking about and it's time to say see ya!!!

Yes, I'm tired of getting our great city slammed.  Our wonderful Spurs get no respect cause they're police.  OMG didn't know that was a bad thing.  Our spurs are not out having affairs and doing drugs, and getting into trouble and trying to choke our coaches.  And yet they get slammed every time we turn around.  David Robinson is one of the greats ballgame players ever and doesn't get one ounce the rrespectthat Jordan gets.  

Our city is a great city.  Does it have poverty, sure.  Does it have crime.  Sure.  but doesn't eevery town

You see old buildings when you come downtown but downtown is ggoingthrough a rebirth and in some of those old buildings he talks about are million dollar apartments.  How about the Majestic downtown not much to look like on the outside but spectacular in the inside.  

You can still by a very nice home her for 120k.  Also one of our schools has recently been voted aamongthe top 20 in the nation and actually I think it may be the top 10.

This is a great city,  please don't take what some people say and take it as gospel.  This is a beautiful city and in case you didn't know it's the number one tourist destination for Thanksgiving!!!!  didn't know this till recently!!!1

So quit dissing our city.  We love it here!!!!!

I've lived here for about 10 years, and truthfully, I hate this place. It's so trashy, and the menality is so backwards. I also find alot of people here are rude. However, I don't think it's the scum of the earth the way you describe that man. All cities have their good and bad sides, and I'd take San Antonio over Portland any day, then I'd take Houston over San Antonio any day, and I'd take Dallas/Ft. Worth over San Antonio, and just about any other major city. You really need to move out and see that San Antonio is so dirty and people here are rude. Try Denver. Even their "bad" side of town is very nice. I'm tired of all the wanna be gang bangers around here. Unless you live by 1604 and StoneOak, this place sucks.

I agree with you COMPLETELY. People need to stop putting down other cities just because they couldn't live there. Maybe he managed to find all the rude people in the city because he was likewise rude to them and they returned the favor.

As for finding all the rundown houses in San Antonio, honestly you get what you pay for. If someones budget is lower than the average person you cant expect them to live in say the area near UTSA.

But that's just my opinion.

I was born in Corpus Christi, Tx.  My father was military and when he retired, he decided that we would move back to Corpus Christi and then move to the Philippines. But Marcos took over and the political climate there for any American born Pinay or Pinoy would be disaster.  So I have lived here since.  I love San Antonio and visit there often.  My family and extended family would like to move there but our roots are here.  We all go there for R and R.  My Sister on the other hand has lived in Austin for >20years.  I have never seen such rude people. Yes, they may have alot of high profile people that live there,so does Corpus Christi.  All of Austin is 6th street. If you get off on 1st street and turn right instead of the left your going into an area that is the 'other' side of Austin. It is the same in this city. I have lived in San Diego, CA., Fallon,Nevada, Norfolk, Virgina, and Brooklyn, NY. This person needs to stay in Austin and quit, how do the people say?, Dissing cities he knows nothing about.

                                 Just a little note. Imelda Marcos owned Half the land of Ocean Drive and Shoreline Blvd which she has sold through out the years.

U know i used too hate you because all of ur answers were always the best but.... I agree 100000% Austin and San Antonio are both great cities, I happen to like SA better but, I mean this guy needs to pack up and leave YA answers. And yes he should just enjoy his Austin Life !!
