Is everyone with Vista having problems with wirelessly connecting to the Internet using a Wi-Fi?

Ok here's the thing:

I got a new computer (vista) because my old one (xp) was messed up...

the scoop is that my wi-fi worked perfectly with my xp but now it won't work with my new vista...

i heard that vista is having problems with wireless routers and things but my friend has vista and has successfully gone through the steps to install the wi-fi

i asked for him to give me the instructions that he took for it to be working but it won't work on mine....

he told me to download the latest version of the wi-fi package but it won't work as i mentioned before!!

i really want to connect my wii and my ds to the internet but it won't work!!

any tips here?!

I am using a laptop running off of vista now. make sure your wifi card is turned on. If you have a gateway, it will be by the small mouse pad. If there isnt small tower will lines coming off then it isnt going to be working. so you can turn this on by:

fn+F2
