Question:

Is expired Temaze (temazepam) harmful or fatal?

I'm asking because I was prescribed Temaze for some nights when I have trouble falling asleep and I've had them for some time. The problem is, the lousy doctor prescribed me only 10 pills, not the 25 in an ordinary bottle, so it was dispensed to me in a pharmacuital container with no expiry date. Can consuming expired Temaze (20 - 30 mg) be harmful or fatal? Also, is there any difference between Temaze and Restoril?

  1. Generally, drugs that pass their expiration date do not become toxic, they just lose their effectiveness.  And they don't lose it all at once, either - they lose it gradually.  If the medication has otherwise been stored properly, it's probably OK.

Restoril and Temaze are the same drug.  The only difference may be the dosage.
