Is fast food still a bargain?

Not too long ago I would get change from a five at fast food joints. Now the total in the drive thru is about eight or nine bucks for the same stuff. When did this happen? Why?

You can still get a bargain at Jack-in-the-Box, Taco Bell, Del Taco.

Some other fast food joints have a dollar menu, from which you can still get a meal.

It's not really a bargain.  I think the higher prices started with the supersizing phenomenom -- larger protions, and the prices crept up as well.  The chains also came out with a lot of specialty sandwiches; you're paying for the extra bacon and cheese.  You have the option of ordering from the dollar menus, though.  But with what the stuff does to your weight and the fact that it all tastes the same after a while, you might want to consider home cooking -- better for your health and your wallet.

Fast food does seem expensive compared to fixing something at home, but it's so much easier at the same time. The Subway's around me are selling their foot long subs for $5. and that seems like a deal to me. It would cost me that much to make a great sandwich at home (plus theirs just taste better).

the food is terrible, therefore not a bargain.

try to avoid at all costs. the only change you will get is in an expanding waist band.

It happened about the same time that the price of gas, food, minimum wage and the cost of living went up.

if you spend $10/day, two meals on fast food place, do you know how much food you can get for $10 on grocery?  fast food is not a bargain, only when you compare with sit-down type restaurnat. besides, most fast food are fat, salty and high calories.
