  1. Well it depends on what period you're looking at. If you looking over the past four years, then definitely he is on a downslide.

If you're looking at him now, compared to how he performed at the start of the year, you would say he is getting back his form in some way. His record before th clay season was 11-4, losing to players he once dominated. This could be due to his recovery from the illness.

After the clay season started he was 32-5, winning three time as more than he did at the start of the yr, with 4 of these losses coming from Nadal. So I won't totally say Federer has declined, because he seems to be getting it back as the yr progressed. Yes he is not himself totally, but he is getting better, recovering. I would also say too, that Nadal has indeed improved his game. This hard court season will let us know his form.

  2. Yep, I'll have to agree - he does seem to have come to the end of his dominating streak. I just read the article I added a link to below and two things said in it really confirmed this to me - One is that he was in good form at Wimbledon and got beat by Nadal anyways - and the other is that Nadal carried over his strength from clay to lawn so well. It kind of seems like Federer is really going to have to work hard at the US Open to stay where he is and even if he does win, it seems times will only get tougher for him from now on, he's not getting any younger.

  3. No.He is the best.He plays good tennis and don`t forget that Nadal is  busy with his itching "backyard" haha

  4. Federer likes 3 more sports before tennis he said he like, Football(soccer for nub), Football(american nub), and basketball, tennis is his 4th, he says he cant focus during the french open if nba playoffs are on.

  5. If you go strictly by wins, yes.

But it's more that Nadal is improving.

Federer still made it to the last two grand slam finals and would have won them both if it weren't for Nadal.

Given that, when you're on top, there's only one direction you can go.

  6. He's playing less, winning less, appears to be losing his edge. He started off this year with a 6-8 head to head against Nadal. Now it's 6-12. Not a good return against your biggest rival.

People don't like when I say this, but Federer seems unmotivated. He really showed grit in the Wimbledon final, but before that, he was just showing up. Yes he would win against lesser players, but look at his record this year against top ranked players. Apart from beating Djokovic in Monte Carlo, I don't think he has beaten any other top ranked player. Even Roddick beat him.

He doesn't seem to be in it. He took a month off before the Australian, then took another month off afterward. From November to February, he played about 2 tournaments. Does that sound like a guy who really wants to be out there?

Let's see what happens over the rest of the year. My bet is that he will only play 3 tournaments before the US Open - Toronto, Cincinatti, and the Olympics. I love Federer, but I'm not sure that level of effort deserves to win grandslams.

  7. Yes. Physically he seems to have lost a step or two, he's not nearly as quick as he used to be, his backhand is more vulnerable, and his forehand (still good but) is not as consistent as it used to be. He still has one of the best serves and that's kept him around.

The fact that he's gotten to the semis and finals of tournaments makes it seem like he is not struggling but he's still ranked #1 and is reaping the benfits of that #1 position. Meaning he doesn't face higher seeds until the later rounds. In the last 5 tournaments he didn't face a single top 20 opponent besides Nadal and he's lost to Nadal everytime they played.

At this point it is important for Federer to hold on to the #1 ranking because if he loses it his decline will be far more evident. If he loses that #1 spot the draws will get tougher for him.

  8. I think so

he stayed a period in a hospital at the beginning of the season so he lost his skills. Moreover a coach has an important role.

I hope to see the real Federer 'cause he's the best for me

    ;-)

    thank you
