  1. Its about the same to me.

  2. I find them both to be just the same. But FedEx is a longer and slower process to ship something.

  3. Are you shipping it to business or a residence? Generally, for both carriers, preference is given to businesses since they tend to use the service most (spend the most money) therefore business packages always get delivered before home packages. Secondly, FedEx does have faster delivery times for overnight and priority. For example, something going U1, or UPS red will deliver between 10:30 am & noon while FP or FedEx Priority (fedex's version of the same service tier) delivers between 8:00 am-10:30 am. It also depends on how far away you are from the nearest hub--how much farther it has to travel to you versus someone who lives near the hub. Of course, if you live in the sticks then it's gonna take longer.

  4. Not necessarily. I'd say they are about equal. Given the choice, I usually pick UPS but that's just personal preference.

One caveat: Do NOT use FedEx SmartPost.  They just bought out another company that does this: they have the post office deliver FedEx packages to homes and I have had the worst experience with that method.  Use regular FedEx.  They say their logistics hasnt been ironed out yet, which is why they have so many complaints. (And it wasnt the post office's fault, either.)

  5. It all depends on what shipping option you choose.  If you do overnight shipping with either company, they have to deliver your package to the recipient the next day.  Standard shipping for both tends to be a few business days.

  6. Hi Christopher,

Do you mean faster or cheaper? Unfortunately, with the price of gas these days, transportation of anything is expensive. As for speed, just call them up and ask who can deliver what it is you want delivered and give them the two postal  (zip)codes and they'll tell you when it will arrive.

  7. I guess it depends on what it is you're measuring. In my neighborhood, the time it takes to drop the package somewhere and enter it into the tracking system as "delivered" is about the same, but FedEx gets it to the correct address less than half the time. One FedEx shipment was "delivered" overnight, but it took another five months before it finally showed up at my house. OTOH, the UPS driver has given me his cell phone number and told me where he goes during his lunch break, to make it easier for me to catch him if I really want to get a delivery right away.

When I call FedEx to report that their package never arrived, their tracking system continues to show it was delivered. The one time UPS misdelivered a package (due to confusion resulting from the USPS changing zip code boundaries), their tracking system was updated to show it was misdelivered and they resolved the problem promptly. It looks to me like someone is fudging their statistics.
