I am no expert on this but I have heard that they over eat rice and later it expands to huge proportions in there intestines once mixed with water and can cause problems.

NO you can give raw rice to birds but Not as a main food source mix with foods, this myth only effects birds if rice is wet and even then it wont kill or blow up its not the best way to give to the birds, Birds have been eating rice in the wild for years and we still have them today, so this is totally false.

Rice has very little nutritional value for birds. It doesn't matter if it is cooked or not. There just isn't much there nutritionally. The swelling up and bursting the crop open is just some propaganda story that PETA uses to keep things stirred up.
