I don't think so.

I think whether you like felines or canines (or both) is based strictly on personality.

The perception is that men prefer dogs because they're big and strong and woman like cats because they're petite & 'proper'.

Trust me though:  I've known plenty of dogs that weren't too strong and even more cats that were far from proper.

I know what you mean and yes, feline is feminine and canine is masculine. Even a male cat is a male feline and therefore feminine. And vice versa with female dog.

it depends on what your are talking about.  In historic literature, yes.  In present times, no.  I've seen big masculine men cuddle and love on cats and little bitty feminine women that own pit bulls.  So, no - in my opinion - neither is either feminine or masculine.

If you're German, then yes.  The descriptor in German (the) for cat is 'die' meaning female and 'der' for dog which is male.

My grandparents came from Germany in 1930 so they spoke both German and English.  I remember growing up my grandmother always called my male cat a she and my female dog a he!!!

I think I know what you mean.  When we think of a cat, we are usually thinking a girl cat.  When we think of dogs, we usually think of male dogs.  Maybe because dogs are generally bigger, stronger, dirty animals, whereas cats bathe in the sun, are more gentle, have longer nails (lol), and are constantly bathing (l*****g) themselves they seem more girly.
