Question:

Is fertility hereditary?

When my mom decided to get pregnant, she got pregnant on her first cycle, I believe for both births. Is that hereditary? Do you think that I am as fertile as my mother? Or does it not matter who your mother was, and each person is different?

  1. I disagree.  Fertility seems to be hereditary.  I have PCOS and had severe infertility.  Sister is anovulatory too.

My mother is an only child.  Her parents were married for 20 years.

My father is an only child.  His parents were married for 40 years.

My mother's mother had 1 sibling.  She was born in 1919 back when people had big families.

My father's father is an only child.

My father's mother had 1 sibling.

So you get the picture.  If your family history does not show infertility back 3 generations on both sides of the family like mine it is unlikely that you would be infertile.  The oldest to give birth without fertility meds is 28.  Age plays a big factor, for those that are older comparing themselves to their mom that gave birth much younger is totally different.

My husband's family is super fertile.  Many had kids late 36, 38, 37,39, 40, 41 all were natural

  2. You know the funny thing is, is that I have had 4 miscarriages!!! My grandma (my moms mom) had 6 miscarriage before she had my mom! My mom was the ONLY child.. My mom never had a miscarriage BUT I do beleive fertility could be in the family jeans!!! You just never know!

  3. no its not hereditary. Even if it is, ,our way of life, food, age of TTC and level of pollution makes it harder for us to conceive. My mother had all of us (4 kids) when ever she decided to, some by mistake even, but also she had me at 23... i started TTC when i was 29... already had pocs (she had it to but at later age maybe 35 or something, this was after she had all of us). I cannot tell ig i inherited pocs from her, but i know that 99% if i started TTC at 23 or so, i would have got pregnant much more easier i.e b4 the pocs appeared. I have been TTC for  about1.5 years before me and my hubby decide to go for IVF....now im 6 months pregnant. I am glad it happened after that time. Good luck to u too.

  4. Oh, it is definitely NOT hereditary. My mom and sisters were teenage mothers and still to this day can get preg. But, I am having a serious problem conceiving. They are upset with me when i mention me not being able to become preg, all they do is kiss and wait 40 weeks. I don't even understand it all, I was told you have unprotected s*x and you get preg. That not true either!

  5. Definitively not, your fertility has nothing to do with your mother's fertility
