  1. lol, once you put on skates, you will find out. It took me a day to figure out how to skate. Kinda tough in the beginning

  2. i've been figure skating for about 5 years now.  I'm just starting on doubles and the double axel is the hardest.  for the double axel, you have to turn 3 times because a single axel has to turn 1 1/2 times around.  you can't really say how long it would take because it all depends on the person.  the double axel is the hardest double jump, not only because you have to turn 3 times, but also because you take off the ice facing forward, so that is a big fear factor for a lot of people.  I have a friend who has been skating for about 8-9 years and she still doesn't have a clean double axel.

  3. this is the way you will be going if you want to land a clean double axel. feel free to look up things like double axel and waltz jump on youtube.

after learning basic things like stroking, 3 turns, crossovers (forward and back), mowhawks, and other basic steps. you will start learning jumps and spins.

    jumps:

    bunny hop

    waltzjump

    salchow

    toeloop

    loop

    flip

    lutz

    axel

    double salchow

    double toeloop

    double loop

    double flip

    double lutz

    double axel

    spins:

two foot spin, scratchspin, sitspin, camel, layback, back scratchspin, back sitspin, back camel, back layback, flying camel, flying sit, beillman, doughnut, back beillman, back doughnut, catchfoot, back catchfoot, cannonball, back cannonball, broken leg sit, back broken leg sit, and many others i can think of right now.

katlynn mcnabb only needed 5 years to learn all of this and the double axel.VERY RARE. but most people take more time, depending on how your body and mind function together, some jumps will be easier for you to understand then others.

  4. I all depends on how dedicated you are to it. You will need a lot of lessons. It isn't to hard, but in the begining it is kind of tough. I would take several years to do a perfect double axel.

  5. HAHA, yeah not to skate but to do all the moves lol

  6. I was a figure skater for many years- and it took about an hour and a half of lessons every week. Skating itself really isn't difficult, its just a lot of balance and control.  But if you want to double axel... you should seriously consider learning to do more basic things first. 3 turns, ballerina hops, waltz, etc. I've seen girls take up to 2 years to land a double. It depends on a lot of things. But try out lessons. Majority of the time, they're worth it

  7. I figure skated and its not that hard to learn.  I took lessons after about a year of trying to skate.  I was fine before that but i wanted to learn more.  It takes about a day and a half.  Good Luck!

  8. Well, I am 13 and I have been skating since I was 3. I have everything up to my double lutz, and I am a little scared to do a double axel on ice, but I can do it off ice. You will need to skate every day for 7-12 years to accomplish all of this. Yeah, its hard. But it is also a ton of fun! You know its a fun sport when someone can do it for 10 years :) I think you should start taking lessons. And who knows? Maybe you'll make it to the Olympics before me :P

  9. Yes and no. Skating is a sport that takes time, patience, skill and will. Once you've practiced and been doing it for some time, it becomes more natural or, easy in this case. To do a double axel you must first complete several jumps before each growing more challenging then the one before. That's what makes the sport a competitive challenge. As for a "perfect" doble axel, that could take time. But it's well worth it. If you have never skated before, I would highly recomend some lessons in advance. It's harder than it looks. Go for it!

  10. Yes it is pretty hard, and depending on your rate, it can take a few years, to 6 years, or 12 years, or even longer to landa clean double axel. You will need to learn all the basic steps then the basic jumps and spins.
