  1. I think it's worth it if you are flying overseas/5 hours or more.  Flying within the U.S. (except for Hawaii or Alaska) is short enough that I really don't think it's worth it.  I've found that sitting in emergency exit rows has plenty of legroom and for short flights is just fine.

If you really don't have much to spend, save your money for more trips, or save it for something special like a honeymoon, anniversary, or similar.

  2. Many factors, my 2 cents:

    1. Your own size. If you are petite like me, nothing is wrong with coach.

    2. Flight hour. Long haul flight indeed will be nicer be done in extra room, meals etc

    3. Economic level. Personally I've been blessed on this side yet I don't think it's worth it. At the end the objective is to reach to the other side.

  3. Many people consider business class to be worth it on very long flights - the seat goes back far enough that you can actually sleep and you get enough legroom that you aren't cramped.  And it's usually not that much more than coach.

Very few people think first class is worth many thousands extra - unless either their companies are paying for it or they are so rich that they don't care.

  4. if someone else is paying, absolutely it is worth the do-re-mi to have me fresh and ready to work at the other end!

If I am paying...I will suck it up and spend a day at the other end decompressing.

(but if I am rich, I will say what the heck, give me seat 1D!)

  5. Depending on the airline First Class in a 747/777 or Airbus jumbo is to die for.  Its as close to heaven as you will get in this life.  But it will cost you.  If you can afford it do it once in your life.

On an 11 hour flight there may be sleeping involved.  First class is best as you will wake up stiff in economy.  You might also consider Business Class as it has seats that are very comfortable.

  6. First Class is an experience that you should try atleast once in your life, be it now or when you get old. However, it is by no means a necessity. Coach is fine as long as you just want to get from Point A to Point B

  7. Do it once in your life and see if it is something you can do without.
