  1. Older flint glass is usually leaded, so I wouldn't store food in it for long periods of time (more than an hour) or serve acidic foods in it.  It should be OK for brief contact with food - lead crystal glasses are still in common use, and I don't think they pose too much of a threat.  When storing liquids in them though, they can leach quite a lot of lead - see the link.  I don't think there is any heightened release of lead when heated while dry.

    Modern flint glasses use additives other than lead oxide, so they should be completely safe for food.
