  1. there is something called a collective in a helicopter that pulling back and forth on decides how much lift the air craft has you also have to balance the aircraft.trying to hover one is described as riding a unicycle on a basketball

  2. Yes a helicopter is much more fun. (my opinion)

Fly like a bird, not like a bat out of h**l.

  3. yes an airplane is relatively easy compared to a helicopter.

Flying helicopters requires thinking in three dimensions.

A helicopter can do three things that an airplane cannot:

    # A helicopter can fly backwards.

    # The entire aircraft can rotate in the air.

    # A helicopter can hover motionless in the air

To control a helicopter, one hand grasps a control called the cyclic, which controls the lateral direction of the helicopter (including forward, backward, left and right). The other hand grasps a control called the collective, which controls the up and down motion of the helicopter (and also controls engine speed). The pilot's feet rest on pedals that control the tail rotor, which allows the helicopter to rotate in either direction on its axis. It takes both hands and both feet to fly a helicopter!

  4. Well, it took me 8 hrs to solo and Fixed wing and 12 hours to solo a Helicopter.

  5. Flying a helicopter is quite different from flying an airplane.

Here are some links to videos explaining controls in the helicopter etc.:

  6. Flying a helicopter is much different than a fixed wing aircraft. The knowledge is the same , but the skills are very different. The cost is much higher too. The only time I ever needed an instructor to bale me out was in a helicopter. Can we say pilot induced oscillations  "PIO"

  7. NO! Much more difficult. A heli was described to me once as flying a machine, that by design, shouldn't. It's yaw vs pitch vs roll. It's not impossible, but I don't have the nerve of trying it.

  8. the differance between a heli and an airplane is like the differance between a bike and pogo-stick
