Is food a bad conversation topic with a girl?

I dunno. There's this girl that interests me in my World History class and the only thing i know about her is that she likes sushi. She looks japanese and my type. I like sushi too, but i heard there are unwritten rules about what to talk about with a girl. (eg talk about her day, don't talk about school, talk about her likes, dont talk about her weight.) Would she think I am jerk if the first topic i come up with is sushi. I mean, will it be a bad first impression (like maybe she'll think i'm a "foody" guy)

Food is a good conversation piece. As long as the subject matter is 'decent,' then bring it on. A person likes to know that you are interested in them and that you have something of value conversation-wise. Go for it, good luck with this young lady. What shall we then say to these things? haha. but if you want to talk to sushi, dont talk about it out of nowhere, if for some reason, (which would be very wierd) the conversation between her and her friends was about food, then just casually go into the conversation and talk about "oh my fave food is sushi," then she will say "hey i like it too" and your automaticlaly in the convesation now. lol

I don't think it is. I love when boys talk about food with me because I love to eat, pizza is my favorite. It's genually a nice way to get to know someone more.

It may if she really has no Japanese background and actually has different ancestry.  If you know she's in the food industry like a chef or baker then food is a good topic because it's her career.

umm... well i personally would think you are a little weird if you talk about sushi to me! lol. i prefer topis more about like school or friends, or were you like to hang out or stuff like that lol. some girls are very self consious and don't like talking about that kind of stuff, so i wouldn't bring up that as a conversation starter lol :)

Well I am a girl, and I live on food. Literally, I mean. I looooove food! It is an excellent conversation starter for me. However, some girls are pickier, so be cautious. You might want to find out a little more about this girl (ex. hobbies, things you have in common, etc), but I personally don't see anything wrong with using sushi as a conversation STARTER. Just don't dwell on it too long. And good luck! :)

hey who cares. we don't all judge your conversations on a scale of one to ten. course she won't think you're a jerk, she'll think it's cool you remember that about her, it shows you listened. Also, you instantly have something in common. Course it depends on the girl, but this is just my instinct =]

haha..dont worry man..you're over-analyzing it.

sit beside her and say confidently..."So I know you like sushi, and i hate saying this but I know absolutely nothing at all! and i was hoping you could tell me about it..like (insert question here)"

that is the easiest way to get her to talk about sushi...and the best part is by the end of the conversation you already have the perfect place to say you want to go to with her on the weekened...that little all-you-can-eat sushi shop down the street.

Just smile and be playfull...and i promise you she wont think you're a jerk/bad impression/a "foody" guy.

Relax dude, she probably is attracted towards you anyway (dude look at yourself in the mirror..who wouldnt be?)...people just dont flat out say it.
