Never buy near or at the top.  Buy downbeaten stocks.  The general newspapers are often late to the party and when they say buy, it's generally time to sell.

Watch for sectors going up, the farther down on the list, the greater movement possible to go upwards.  Sectors near the top of this list have no place to go but down.  Some sectors may stay down awhile, but you can keep going back looking for movement for free.
