Depends on what kind of food ur talking about. Indian food has a massive variety and it can range from mild spicy to very spicy.

Some of it is, some of it is not. But overall I would say that in comparison to 'western' food, it is much more spicer. It is common place to use a larger variety of spices in Indian cooking.

southern indian food is much spicier than northern indian...one of my good friends is from Dehli, and this is what he says. India is, and always has been very well known for their spices and have been very instrumental in the spice trades for the last few hundred years. That was greatly enhanced when the Britsih colonized India and started spreading their spices to even more corners of the globe.

India's a big country. But all in all I would say they like their hot food. But if you don't want to go hot, go for their creamy dishes. They make a lot of sauces using creams and fruit.  Try a Korma, Kashmiri or Bhuna. With some naan bread, poppadums and mango chutney. Not hot and very yummy.
