Are babies born with thicker skin on their feet than say, their bellies, buttocks, arms, etc, or is the thickness of the skin only dependent on calluses?

  1. HHMM, i would say it would be about the same as most other places (excluding the face, i'd say that's the thinnest) and it gets thicker as we get older because of all the weight and pressure on them.

  2. Yes, there is a little bit of extra skin on the soles of your feet and the palms of your hands. But some of it is dependant on calluses, your feet will get more heavily callused over time, as will your palms if you do a lot of work with your hands.

  3. Yes, actually, your foot skin IS naturally thick.  The skin on the palms of your hands and on the soles of your feet actually contains an extra layer.  This extra layer of skin, called the stratum lucidum (had to look the name up in an anatomy textbook) is only found in the skin on your palms and soles of the foot.

  4. I think it gets thicker as we get older naturally and also calluses.

    A mixture!
