Is foresnic science a good field to go into?

Got accepted to a masters program for forensic science, just want to see if anyone has any other personal experience or knowledge with this field before i accept my offer and weight it against my other choices.

  1. I don't have any experience in that field... but I can tell you that it'd be fairly hard to find a permanent job in it.

    Look at all the CSI shows out there, not just the actual CSI series, but any other television series that follows the same forensic related formula.

    These shows have popularized the field of Forensic Science... more people entering this field equals more jobs taken after graduation. I'd only suggest getting into this field if you're willing to take on the academic 'pissing contest' that will ensue. (Basically, you'll need more, better, and specialized training if you want to land a good, permanent job.)


  2. I think you need to decide which area of forensic science you want to go into and what kind of training you need to get the kind of job you want.

    There are a lot of colleges and universities that have various forensic science courses, not only because of he increasing demand and popularity with shows like the CSI trilogy, but because courts and juries now demand more detailed and better scientific evidence, especially in serious crimes.

    Computer forensics is a growing field, with white collar crime on the increase.
