Is free hugs illegal?

I would love to do 'free hugs' but i heard it's illegal? if it's not, where's the best place to do it when you live in the suburbs.

if that's the case, yes it is.  if you mean the literal meaning of the word "hug" then no it's not illegal, but if you just come out of the blue and hug some stranger, they'll probably injure you and call the cops.  but you can legally hug your friends for free!

Free Hugs isn't illegal fool! I would see if you were trying to hug random people but your supposed to let whoever wants a hug come to you, therefore avoiding any lawsuits : )

How is it illegal? Do you live somewhere where physical contact is outlawed?

Don't touch people who don't want hugs, don't block roads or fire exits, if the police come to tell you to stop, ask them why then leave the area. Ask parents permission before giving children hugs.

Doing it in a public place where you are allowed to be is a plan.

If it is illegal then thats more proof that political correctness has gone wayyyyyy to far. I would say your local shopping center is a great place.

Giving free hugs is not anymore illegal than shaking hands. Lots of people do it at conventions, music festivals and public places all over the world (even Asia where people are more shy than us). The best way to get started is to buy a few Free Hugs T-Shirts and gift them to your best friends and relatives, then go together to a festival or convention or demonstration (any crowded place will do). You will be surprised how many people enjoy getting a free hug. Specially children.

If you touch someone without their consent then that can be classed as assault.

If I ( as a dirty old man ) started hugging any young ladies that got too close to me. I would be arrested & charged with sexual harassment and assault

Of course if any young ladies wish to hug me. I would not complain ( unless my wife was watching :o)
