Question:

Is free speech an alien concept to Yahoo Answers?

I Just posted a question which read:

"Is the media brainwashing people into voting for Obama?"

The question received 8 stars and got 34 answers...yet Yahoo goes ahead and deletes it because it was neither "a question nor an answer". How so? It was clearly a question!

Or maybe the folks who run this site love Obama too much and can't stand to see their great and venerable leader's actions questioned?

How can this forum be called "Answers" if one cannot ask certain questions but can only ask questions that are politically correct?

  1. I  don't think it's YA. it's the members of the forum who, correctly, are allowed to report qbuse. YA has the responsibility to delete questions if someone has complained. Democracy gone mad. Bit that is the American way. You can say what you like as long as they let you., at least you don#t get shot or arrested, you only have your words censored.

  2. I KNOW!!!

I created a topic the other day about Christian and Atheist hatred which recieved like 3 stars and 46 answers as well as angry commenters..

Before having it deleted and losing 9 points...

I'm like, so its okay for all these racist losers to vent all day about nothing but I can't ask a legitimate question? Inconsistency much?

Honestly, I think the "mods" are a bunch of biased, overzealous jerks.

  3. Yes. No. Maybe.     (I can't say because they are WATCHING me.)

  4. I agree, Some of these people are report happy.

I think it's because they aren't smart enough to answer the question, they get scard and delete it.

  5. If it helps - your sentiment is absolutely shared by many here who have had similar experiences.  Don't question the Great Obama.   Obscenity, vulgarity, spelling so bad you can't read it, insulting McCain, that's all fine.  The person above has some great points.  It's true fascist thinking all right - and if this guy is elected, those who have been whining about Bush of all people being "fascist" will finally find out the true meaning of the word.  The far left is not interested in free expression of ideas and debate.

I'm not saying there shouldn't be rules.  Some of the young ones here don't realize that the language they use isn't acceptable to everyone.  There is no place for really vulgar stuff - I mean, learn to express yourself for heaven's sake like an adult.

But when a legitimate question is deleted because a few idiots don't LIKE it, and YA! just lets that stand - using some silly generality like "chatting", "ranting" or "not a question" it infuriates me - because about 80% of the stuff in this category is a rant or chatting or not a question.  If you are going to insist upon a rule for a few people and not everyone - - I don't get that at all.  So yes, it's fascist.

  6. actually you are free to say or ask anything you choose as long as it agrees with everyone else's opinion. Some people can ask legit questions and answer legit answers and they are deleted but you have people on here asking stupid stuff REALLY STUPID stuff..and it stays up.. this site is not what it started on to be.. It's now "agree with me or get reported" and YA staff doesn't follow up they just assume everything is correct. I have had violations for TOS on questions that were not even mine..

  7. your not supposed to ask that

  8. take a look at my questions.  you should answer the one about censoring questions, answers, and blogs about obama.  i experience the same thing.  i floated a question which began with the word "why," that asked about obama's true birth certificate, since i want to know that a true citizen will be our president, as outlined in the constitution.  yahoo removed that question without even giving me a reason whatsoever.  it wasn't a rant, it was a question, and in one day, 11 people had answered, which tells me that it was relevant to them, too.    also, all sorts of stories that were found last week about obama using the google search engine are no longer returned as found stories.  they were questioning blogs and stories about obama.  it's as though his campaign workers reserved some of his in-the-black campaign funds to use computerized readers and spiders to filter through commentary about obama.  then, they probably have employees that turn your question in as inappropriate.

but i don't see that question as inappropriate at all.  inquiring minds want to know.  and if what is said makes the candidate look bad, because what is said is the truth, then tough.

your content and the answerers' content should be readily available for anyone to read.  golly, yahoo answers is getting fascist!

  9. Well, technically it's a question. But it's certainly common practice, particularly among the regressive right, to make a false and outrageous allegation and then put a question mark at the end.  It's still just a false and outrageous allegation.

Or, maybe they deleted it because it's ungrammatical.  "Media" is plural. It should be:  "ARE the media brainwashing people . . .?"
