I ask because I'm not sure now. I foolishly asked a question about Sarah Palin in the Elections section and got abused and called nasty names. I didn't report them. This morning I woke to a violation notice saying my Q had been deleted. This was AFTER I chose BA.

What does this say about free speech and Palin supporters.

Those that know me would realise I'm not nasty myself. Its disappointing to say the least but I guess I need to follow my own advice about deleted Qs LOL

  1. yes i believe it is.

  2. we have amended of the constitution Freedom of Expression

  3. I'm a Palin supporter and would not abuse you for your views.

The right to freedom of speech is one we are still fighting for. (that's a jest BTW)

  4. I believe its part of the constitution.  But in reality, there are many limitations.  There are a lot of things that we just can't talk about, and many words that absolutely cannot be uttered in public, or in private; someone might hear.

  5. I think a number people believe  that their right to free speech is equal to their right to be ill mannered, and in some ways I guess it is.  I sometimes wonder if it is the lack of personal consequence for such immature responses that allows them to feel free to abuse any social discourse that invades their insulated selves.

What a sad and sorry life to need an avatar face to hide behind so that you can slap at anything and anyone who does not agree with you.  I think it says very little about who they support and a great deal about the way they  ill equipped  for real life interacting with real people.

  6. The Right to Free speech is (and always has been) one of the very first rights in the Constitution of the United States of America.

    Hope this helps!                 CJ

  7. nothing is free -- it is the first amendment but it has been bought and paid for many times over with blood -- problem is most folks think freedom of speech gives them the right to cuss me out or to shut down some one who is not insulting but is stating something different than what them believe!!!  i  try to choose the written or spoken word carefully but i also try to speak my mind since it is one of the freedoms i really love!!!

  8. Freedom of speech, your rights end were my begin.

  9. free speech is the first amendment

  10. Freedom of Speech is in the Constitution.  It is the FIRST Amendment of the Bill of Rights.  Many people everywhere have trouble with people saying things they don't like; but, it is easy to support freedom of speech when it involves speech that you approve of.  Not so easy when it involves speech that you do not approve of.  OTOH simply disagreeing with someone, even vehemently, is not violating their freedom of speech.

As for your deleted question, Yahoo often deletes questions if just one person complains.  I don't think they even bother to look at them.  They have the right to do so though.  It is a privately owned forum; and, as such, they have a right to not "publish" any post that they choose for whatever reason they choose.

  11. I'm sorry I missed your question. I feel that free speech is a part of my life and in the US. I guess some people forget that when they dislike what another says. Sorry.

  12. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

yahoo controls it's own laws or makes up it's own as it goes

  13. Free speech is guaranteed by the 1st Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.  However, the Constitution only controls government regulation of speech.  YA, being a wholly private institution, can delete whatever it feels like deleting.

BTW -- religious ultraconservatives in the US (like Palin) are usually the ones who try to stifle speech (censorship of music, television, and radio, removal of books from school libraries, that kind of thing).

  14. "I may detest what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

  15. Being unable to see what your question was, I am unable to determine if it was truly in violation of Y!A's Guidelines.

Free speech does not mean ANY speech.  Slander and libel is not legal. Furthermore, this forum is a PRIVATELY owned forum, and as such, the OWNERS have a RIGHT to CONTROL whatever goes on here.

Also, there is no time limit to reporting questions or answers... in theory, a violation is a violation regardless of when it occurred.

    Have a Senior day.

  16. We have read your answers and questions, and they are at best "criticisms" of our country, politics, constitution. Maybe you should concern yourself more with the "down under"

  17. of course theres no free speeach, i consider free speach being able to say to the president yor going to assassinate him and then going to a 7 year old and start cussing

that be paradise for me and that is what i think humans deserve, not this bullshit peice of paper nobody follows, freedom of speech isnt "you may say anything, but it has to follow these guidelines"

  18. i have the right of free speech you have the right to protest or disagree..it's just a petty protest let it go..it's not personal..they don't know you..these are the same people that talk behind your back and you can't trust them any farther than you can throw them..
