  1. Expression of thoughts that challenge a dominant view, or view of the head of a class can be poorly received, but I all in all I think that schools encourage free thought.  I think personality is what makes a difference.  Some teachers use outlines written years ago and want a platform for a wide variety of views.  Some want input and discussion from a class.

So I guess it depends on who's in charge.

  2. It SHOULD be but it really depends on the program and the professor. Some profs are not open to different ideas while others will give you a low grade for being unoriginal.

If however, you are in sociology or social science, then "free thought" may be common ideologies which are unacceptable and challenged.

  3. Depends what state/country you go to.

  4. Well lets put it this way. Try wearing a shirt that encourages or supports the Second Amendment and see how many people ask you to turn it inside out. It is more of the Curriculum than anything else. However that is the School it self. Now the Professors are known to encourage free thought at certain times and these professors will throw a curve ball that even the school may question.
