I always see the commercials for it and the last time I went to the bank they told me I had no credit so I couldn't get a credit card, but now I want to try and apply for a Target card, but I want to check my credit report and make sure there are no surprises...you always here those stories of people who go to apply for something and they can't because they're thousands of dollars in debt due to idenity theft and I just want to make sure mine is ok still.

  1. Yes, it is a safe website to check your credit report. But it is only free for 30 days. Read the fine print when you are signing up to make sure that time is still 30 days. When I got my report from them, I just called right afterwards to cancel my account. If you call and tell them you would like to cancel your account they will do it for you. If you cancel within 30 days, it is free.

If the bank said you don't have credit, you may still not have credit. You earn credit by taking out loans and having a credit card. Target would probably accept you even if you don't have credit. To build credit, find a company that will give you a credit card. For the first two months, use the card for small purchases and pay ONLY THE MINIMUM PAYMENT. After those two months, pay off the entire thing. If you use it for small purchases, the interest shouldn't be too high. If you do the minimum payment the first two months, you are earning credit because you are borrowing money. If you pay it off immediately it will not show up on your credit score and you will continue to have no credit.

You can discuss this more with your banker. Since your bank would not give you a credit card, may I suggest Bank of America? They gave me a credit card when I had no credit and they also gave me advice for building credit.

  2. Safe, yes.  Free, NO!  They were taken to court with a class action suit as they charge a membership in order to get your FREE report.

Go here, you will get a free report from all 3 of the credit reporting companies.  You are entitled to 1 free from each of them annually.

  3. I was wondering the same thing. They charge you a dollar on your card and then return the dollar.  You have to give them your credit card number.  What do you think they might do with your credit card number?

They could give or sell or lend it to someone or they could make recurring withdrawals from your account. You wouldn't know about these withdrawals until you got your statement, and then they might go unnoticed and you might have a hard time stopping them when you finally noticed them.

  4. yeah they will be able to provide you with a free credit report, there are a couple of ways you could start building credit, you could get a small personal loan which you might need a cosigner or the best way will be getting a credit cards, you could get a credit card and use it for your every day expenses but make sure you pay in full at the end of the month that way it will show pay in full everytime the credit card company reports to the credit beuros. At the begining you will only be approved for the lower end credit cards but once you build credit in about 6-9 months you should be able to apply for a better card with better benefits such as free miles or cash back. Check out www.fastcreditcardapprovals.com and go under bad or no credit section and you will find a few choices.

  5. yes - but you are entitled to  a free report from each of the three main credit agencies.

Freecreditreport is interested in selling you services.

you need to go to annualcreditreport .com.

By the way - you should not click on that link or any other link like this you see in a posting. I know I am honest but others will just be trying to get you to a phishing site.

So how do you find that site?

search in google for the ftc - or federal trade commission - this is a government agency that forced the credit bureaus to do this. Go to th ftc site and look for the report links.

  6. There's nothing free about FreeCreditReport.com.
