  2. Nope! It actually comes from the Romans ... dating back from around 1000 - 2000 B.C.

  3. Yes, pain perdu, or translated it means lost bread.  I think from what I remember it's stale bread  (conserved so it wasn't lost/gone to waste) and then dipped in a mixture of egg and milk.
