Is futurama better than the simpsons?

And I don't want to hear the cliched comments about how the new Simpson's are c**p.. I mean in general, which is better and why?

I prefer Futurama. So much more can be down with that show since it is based in the future. Though I know both are cartoons...the Simpsons is still based in a 'reality' so they will have limitations.

Thank you Comedy Central for the 16 new Futurama episodes!! (or 4 DVD's if you want to look at it that way...LOL)

Personally, I like both shows. The Simpsons is a more successful show, but that doesn't mean it's better than Futurama. Different people like different things.

It all comes down to a matter of preference.  I happen to enjoy both, but I vastly prefer Futurama because the characters have real heart and personalities beyond "angry, stupid dad" and "bratty son".  Futurama is also often unexpectedly emotional in a more adult way, whereas while the Simpsons may try to tack on an arbitrary lesson for an episode, it's really just all about silliness . . . which, of course, is still fine.

Because the Simpsons is unfortunately relying more and more on slapstick humour these days, I haven't watched a new episode in a long time.  Futurama may be silly most of the time, but it's got a lot of unexpected heart behind it from time to time that I appreciate and doesn't make me feel ridiculous for watching cartoons at 23.

The Simpsons is better-- or at least more popular-- because more people can relate to it. Most people can see a bit of the Simpsons in themselves, and those who can't probably see a lot of the Flanderses in themselves.

Futurama plays more to the techie crowd, and there is a lot of humor that non-techs won't get (like Bender running on a 6502, wah ha ha ha!). I do think it got better and more "human" over time, and the finale with all its use and misuse of irony was one of the most clever moments on TV.

It's an interesting question because they were both really good and really funny, both innovative, and both have the same kind of humor.  You can't answer this question just off the bat, you have to think about it.

I really enjoyed Futurama but I always thought The Simpsons was funnier.  The Simpsons had more stock characters and over the years they've used them more and more.  The basic characters in the Simpsons, the family, had a chance to develop their characters more over 20 years.  I mean, you think of Bart Simpson being 10 years old for 20 years!  8^)  He's got being 10 years old down pat!  

And while I really enjoy 'the future' on Futurama being just a parody of today, I think The Simpsons has a better chance at parodying modern life, family life, school, work, culture, politics, everything that we are faced with today.

I would have liked it if Futurama could have stayed around a little longer, but it's hard to imagine Futurama going 20-some years like the Simpsons.  They would just have run out of ideas.  You could see they were already beginning to get desperate when they brought in The Professor's little grandson (or whatever he was) and Hermes' son because all the characters had been worn out.  There were only so many funny situations you could get into by delivering packages to distant planets with beings that were different from us.

And I know you didn't want to hear about Family Guy, but Family Guy being brought back shows the advantage of having a sitcom about a modern dysfunctional family, something we can all relate to.

The Simpsons is the best show period , over 400 episodes and all gold. I don't know why people are complaining about how the new episodes are the worst episodes ever it's still amazing. Besides 10 years people were saying that simpsons was getting bad and people were saying the episodes were the worse episodes ever, so no matter what we'll always have people complaining but the true fans still love the show. And Family Guy is not funny and it died around 2001 yet somehow is still making it.

futurama is better cause less messages and dont try to make you feel sad (lisa!!) but overall family guy ftw!! (giggity giggity alright..)
