I am male, 24, 5'11, 14 stone and have a slim build.

I want to up my weight to 15 stone or maybe 15.5 stone, because I practise judo and think the extra weight may be an advantage.

I'm not asking how to gain weight I'm asking if it is a good idea.

  1. at 5'11" and 14st I don't see how it is possible you have a slim build, I suggest you buy a new mirror.

Having said that gaining weight for the sake of gaining weight is not a good idea, gaining weight through increased muscle for the desired strength increase is a better reason.

I thought Judo used weight classes so I don't see how this would help, unless you have poor technique and try to muscle a move.

Increased weight can have a negative effect on endurance, you don't see any marathon runners that tip the scales big.

  2. not for the fact of gaining weight no it's not a good idea at all. if you do it the right way like lifting weights and exercise then fine but just don't do it for an edge in judo,

  3. Weight gives you no advantage in judo.

  4. Weight can give u the advantage if u feel comfortable in it, in truth its ur personal choice, when u increase in weight u might feel u move better then u did when u weighted less or vice versa. As for the judo thing, depending on ur personal choice i may or may not help. but from my knowledge u dont need to be big to do judo because they use their enemies force to excute their moves.

  5. if you do so in a safe healthy way such as eating healthy and gaining the weight in muscle its good oppose to eating foods high in fat just to put on weight fast
