just as the question asks. I have seen so many people recommend to drink gatorade after, and sometimes before, a race.Is it really that helpful? What's better, gatorade or water?

  1. Although water is appropriate for runs lasting less than an hour, sports drinks are more desirable during longer runs due to the presence of carbohydrate for glycogen repletion and electrolytes for fluid absorption and optimal muscle function. Cheers!, so it depends on what type of distance you are going..... Stay Cool

  2. yes it doesnt really matter what you drink AFTER a race,.

    but water is better.

NEVER drink a substantial ammount of gatorade before a race though. it will raise your energy level for ten minutes, and then drop it intensely, hurting your chances

  3. It is okay before a race, mix it with water for an even better effect. Dont drink too much 1-2 hrs before your race.

After a race you need to replenish what you just lost with something- a bagel, energy bar, granola bar... gatorade is really good because you get carbs, sugar and calories- all things you are low on after a race. Both are good, remember to drink some of the gatorade out of the bottle and then mix the rest with water.

  4. before race, water is definately better. and i wuld have to say that gatorade is really good after a race because it works faster to restore what you lost while you were running

  5. Water is healthier for you. 100%.

However, before a race, since Gatorade is loaded with sugar it can help you get some energy. Plus it restores electrolytes faster than water. So, yes. A combination of water and gatorade would probably be the best.

  6. YESYESYES --

it is not the best to drink a lot of it before a race but its really really good to have it after a race

gatorade has the electrolytes that water doesn't have and after you finish a race you are tired and lost a lot of electrolytes from running -

so yes, you need to get the electrolytes back in your system and gaterade is really really good to drink afterwords

personally for me, drinking gatorade before gives me stomach aches and i drink like 5 bottles of water before a race, and then water and gatorade or vitamin water after

  7. yes gatorade is really good for you after a race because it refills your body with the sodium and other things you just burnt off during the race. I wouldn't suggest drinking it on a daily baises though
