  1. Its made of cow hooves. The vegetarian version of gelatin is agar-agar, which is seaweed. if you wanna read more heres a link with a brief description of agar http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agar-agar

  2. correct. gelatin is made from those items and certain fats.  Mostly found in marshmallows, skittles, starburst so a vegeterian would need to avoid those products.

  3. no. its actually made from ground up bones and skin. i dont know why you would eat itin the first place.

  4. As a vegetarian, i would not eat gelatin. I avoid products that contain these items, and instead lean seek out substitutes

  5. It is indeed made from the bones, connective tissue, and hides (but not the hooves) of animals, so no, it is not okay for vegetarians to eat.

Gelatin pops up in the weirdest spots, so please read labels.  Some foods with gelatin:  Jello, Starburst, Skittles (except for the Chocolate flavor), Necco candies, marshmallows, some kinds of guacamole (read the label), and some yogurts (again, read the label).

  6. you can't have gelatin,   you can't have most processed foods.

read those labels and study the information on what those ingredients mean in google.com searches.

you'll  be surprised how much animal product is in things  (especially things with a shelf life)

  7. Its defiantly an animal product. Don't eat it if your a vegetarian, and if your not then don't give food that has it in it to a vegetarian.

  8. It is always made from hooves, bones, and skin.

    Things that might contain it:

    Jello

    Guacamole

    Sour cream

Things that use either sour cream or guacamole (dips).

    Gummy and chewy candy

    Yogurt

    Dry-roasted, salted nuts

Marshmallows (but not necessarily marshmallow cream)

There are a lot of substitutes, but they usually chose by what it's used for.  Sometimes, it's used for thickening, sometimes as a glue.  Some of the substitutes (all vegan) are:

    Carrageenan

    Agar

    Pectin

    Corn starch

It seems most Asian desserts are more apt to use agar than gelatin.

As for eating it, the general consensus is no, it's not acceptable for vegetarians, but there are probably vegetarians that knowingly eat it.

  9. No.  It comes from the collagen of skin, cells, bones, and cartilage.  Traditionally it came from cows.  Most gelatin now comes from the skin of pigs.

  10. Nope its not good for vegetarians

same thing with Rice Krispes, fruit snacks, and marshmallows

they have animal skin and bones

  11. It's an animal product.  Google it.

  12. Gelatin is made by boiling the hides, bones and connective tissue of slaughtered animals.  It's no more vegetarian than eating a slab of flesh from the same animal would be.

  13. I chose not to eat it when I became vegetarian but thats all up to you.

I did slip sometimes for s'mores

    common foods gelatin is in:

marshmellows (but not Fluff), poptart frosting, some cake frosting, yogurt, chewy things (starburst, airheads)

it has to do with consistancy.

  14. It is made from animal hooves and bones as well as fat. Don't eat it.
