  1. No.  Gelatin is the process of rending the left over parts.  Its like making stock you boil the bones for the flavor then discard the bones.  Gelatin is used to stabilze products you want to harden but not become a brick.  Like jello.  When you make a fish stock the end result is a jelly form.  This is the same process all bones are discarded afterward.

    hope this helps.

  2. no, i used to think that too. it is made from boiling all the left overs. (hair, teeth, hooves, bonesetc.)

  3. it is basically the ground hooves of pigs and occasionally cows. i know that my vegetarian friends don't eat it, because it is part of an animal, but it is just like you or i getting our fingernails clipped.

  4. Gelatin is made by boiling bones, hides and connective tissue, usually of pigs but also of cows and/or fish.

  5. When I found that out I nearly puked

  6. Gelatin is collagen that comes from the bones, skin, cartilage, and connective tissues.  Traditionally it came from cows but today most gelatin comes from pig skin.

  7. Gelatin is made by boiling down cattle hoofs. Crushed bones are called bone meal, used on rose gardens.

  8. All I need to know is that it involves animals, but to answer your question, no. It doesnt contain crushed animal bones. They boil the bones and other parts of the animal and the foam on top afterwards is the gelatin.

I have also heard red food coloring is made from crushed beetles. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Was_red_food_c...

Not the best source, but it is true.

  9. It's really the connective tissue between the bones, I think. Still a big ewww.

  10. yes, the bones are boiled, then ground into a fine powder, and then of course flavor and color are added...yum!

  11. That's why Jell-O doesn't give factory tours.  Seriously.

  12. That's nothing - ever seen a shiny apple? Its likely to be coated in shellac, crushed insects.

  13. OKAY... this is the right answer! I have found out about and this is what I know...

Gelatin is made by boiling the hides and bones of cows and pigs to release their collagen, which is boiled some more, filtered, dried and ground into a powder.

    so yeah it is!

if u wan2 eat jelly sweets then get the ones which say "suitable for vegetarians" or "halal"

  14. Vicky---shellac is an insect secretion, not crushed insects. Maybe you're thinking of cochineal.

Gelatin is a product of the animal rendering process. All leftover parts from slaughter go to animal rendering plants.
