  1. Yes, gelatin is made from the bones, hides, and connective tissues of animals.

If you're looking for S'mores, a company called Sweet & Sara makes these divine vegan s'mores--well, they're more like moon pies, but they are totally delicious.  Sweet & Sara also makes vegan marshmallows.  There are several online retailers that carry Sweet & Sara, or you can go to their website to see if a brick and mortar retailer in your area carries them.

Another company that makes vegan marshmallows is Vegan Sweets, and you can buy their products at www.veganstore.com.

  2. Yes. It contains animal by-products.

There are veg marshmallows, although you may only be able to find them online.

  3. Gelatin is made from decaying animal hides. In fact, one of the most confusing products on the market today is "gelatin." Gelatin is a jelly-like protein by-product made from pork, skin, cattle bone, calfskin or fish skin for commercial use. The three main concerns about gelatin are: the origin of gelatin (is it from a pig or a cow or something else?), the safety of gelatin (is it safe to consume so much gelatin?), and the BSE risk of gelatin.

    Mixed Opinions...

Is gelatin derived from pork halal (permissible) for a Muslim to eat?

Is gelatin derived from cattles halal (permissible) for a Indian to eat?

  4. Yup, unfortunately it is made from boiled tendons and hooves.  Yuk! I wish companies would take this ingredient out of stuff.  Maybe that is why vegans and vegetarians are so healthy, cause they cant eat all the sweets that have gelatin in them! Like Hostess! lol.

  5. Gelatin (US spelling) or gelatine (British spelling) (used to make Jell-o and other desserts) is made from the boiled bones, skins and tendons of animals. An alternative substance is called Agar-Agar, which is derived from seaweed. Another is made from the root of the Kuzu. Agar-Agar is sold in noodle-like strands, in powdered form, or in long blocks, and is usually white-ish in color.

  6. Yes, gelatin is really made from dead animals.

There are vegan friendly marshmallows available (Sweet & Sara is one brand) but you're only going to find them at specialty stores or online.
