  1. Georgia is NOT a member of NATO.

We do not have a formal alliance with them.

We have, however, cooperated with them in many military ventures and they have troops cooperating with the USA in Iraqi.  We have trained their army and we have service people stationed in Georgia.

So in an informal sense, Georgia might be called an ally--but that is misleading about the true nature of our diplomatic relationship.

Even if they were in NATO, NATO nations protect each other in case unprovoked invasion.  It could be argued that Georgia started the war and NATO would not be required to intervene.

  2. yes they are allies

  3. Georgia is member of NATO so is USA. And yes Georgia is an ally of the US. However read more and you will find that Georgia started this State war. USA should stay out of it. Our involvement could mean WW111. And that we don't want to happen.

  4. We are in a netural role. The most we've done is transport their troops home.

  5. Officially, no, Georgia is not an ally of the United States. Alliances are the result of treaties being signed between nations, and such treaty of alliance has been signed with any of the former Soviet Republics.

Are we afraid of Russia? Not really, but we do have reason to be concerned. Remember, Russia may not have quite the military might it once had, but it still has nuclear capability, a reasonably strong naval force, and a very strong national resolve.
