Question:

Is getting 4 teeth extracted for braces worth it?

According to my orthodontist, he said my teeth are very minor, and that it's a lot of hard work for a minor problem. I have a small overbite, but my front teeth stick out slightly, and I want them pushed back in. To do so, I need 4 teeth pulled out :(

I'm a huge wuss when it comes to pain. Do reckon it would be worth-it though?

My sister who's teeth were utterly crowded, with teeth coming from all directions (okay maybe i exaggerated a bit) had 4 teeth pulled out, yet mines in place just the front teeth.

Your opinion?

  1. It depends on how old you are. If you are in your early teens, I think it's worth it, cos you still got many years of youth ahead of you. Years of being physically attractive to the opposite s*x, etc. But if you're already in your 20s, nah. Don't do it. Cos you'd just be wasting a precious few years left of your youth before you hit 30.

  2. Tough decision. Are the teeth to be pulled wisdom teeth? Are they impacted? Sometimes it's worth just having wisdom teeth pulled because they can cause problems later in life.

You and only you can decide what to do. Your dentist should tell you all your risks. You can weigh those risks against the potential for beautiful teeth.

With whatever you decide on: good luck!

  3. PULL THEM ALL OUT!!

  4. A day of discomfort to have nice teeth the rest of your life? You tell me.

  5. Depends on how bad your teeth are and how bad you want them fixed.

I would personally say if you can't take pain don't do it. It is VERY painful depending on how deep the teeth are in your gums to have them pulled.

If you just want to fix the teeth that are SLIGHTLY pushed out I would say forget it, it'sdefinitely NOT worth it.

    Good luck

  6. I'd say yes, your smile will be gorgeous when its all done. I had 9 teeth pulled all at the same time, plus a bunch more at different times for braces, and feel that that's worth it. I'm also a hugeee wuss with pain, but I just got some really good meds, and took it easy for a while, and iced a lot, and it was pretty good. Good luck, if you have any questions, email me!

  7. Been there - done that.  If you and your Orthodontist want perfect teeth then you should get them pulled.  Just tell the Oral Surgeon that you want to be put to sleep.  That way it'll all be over before you know it.

  8. trust me, its all worth it in the end.  and i've gotten teeth pulled before too.  i have an extremely low pain tolerance as well, and i was fine.  i was so scared before, but they num your mouth and you dont even feel the tooth come out.  i didnt even know the dentist was done till he told me.  i didnt feel a thing.  in the end, when your teeth are nice and beautiful you will be glad you did it. :)

  9. just do it.

it will be worth it because you'll have nice teeth.

getting your teeth pulled isn't as bad as it sounds.

i got my wisdom teeth out, and it wasn't even that bad.

they give you pain killers and the pain completely goes away.

    you'll be fine
