Is getting a driving instructor worth the money?

I'm about to start learning to drive but was wondering if getting a driving instructor is the best option for me. I'm over 18 so I don't need to go to driving school but it seems when my boyfriend or any other person takes me to drive they get impatient or seem scared that I might crash their car even though I don't and it just makes me nervous. I've been holding off getting a driving instructor because it can be expensive and need to save money for at least 5 lessons which is about 63 dollars for 2 hours! but will it be worth it? I don't want to spend all this money and still not be able to drive but I also don't like having people show me that just seem to not care very much. I reallyneed to learn how to drive, its been a burden on me lately. What should I do?? any advice? Can instructors really teach me to drive better then someone who has been driving for years?? what's the difference??

  1. Yes, get lessons. Friends and relatives rarely are good teachers. That's why so many drivers are poor drivers. They weren't properly trained.

  2. DRIVING INSTRUCTORS IN UK ARE PROFESSIONAL AND YOU CANT GET BETTER I DONT KNOW WHAT QUALIFICATIONS THEY HAVE IN YOUR COUNTRY BUT HERE THEY ARE HIGHLY TRAINED AND SPECIALIST IN WHAT THEY DO SO ASK AND GO FOR RECOMMENDATIONS THAT'S WHAT STUDENTS DO HERE I KNOW I'M A DRIVING INSTRUCTOR

  3. Agree, getting an instructor is the best bet.  It takes the pressure off you as well as your family/friend who is trying to help.  Sometimes it is hard to take the advice of a family member or friend who is trying to teach you, which can lead to conflict.  An instructor is an impartial professional, will give you clear accurate instruction, and will guide you in a non-threatening manner towards your goal.  Well worth the money, or with a bit of luck, you know one who will give you free lessons!

    Stay safe

  4. Okay...........in Europe, Driver Education in a manual shift vehicle is mandatory, costs approximately $3500., and includes about 35 hours of lessons, and after you practice more, you may be put on a waiting list when you are 18 years of age to be eligible to take a road test........

I would seriously advise that you spend a few hours at least, with a Professional Driving Instructor from a reputable Driving School. If you aren't satisfied with the results, change Instructors.

A good Driving Instructor will show you the basic techniques and habits required to develop proper skills and confidence.

Once you know what to do, then you will feel more confident because you DO know..........and then practice and take another brush up lesson or two before you take your road test.

YES, a Driving Instructor with some experience will teach you to use your eyes, hands and feet properly, will teach you how to make proper turns, develop good judgement, etc....etc.....

    THERE IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE.

An Instructor can teach you HOW to do things properly because it is their job to TEACH.

You can then put this knowledge into practice.

Your parents may be very good drivers, but it's one thing to drive and another thing to explain the details in a way you understand. Taking driving lessons will also keep the peace at home......hahaha

  5. Yes a driving instructor will be your best bet because that is their job day in and day out and on the other hand a friend will teach you their way of driving that might and will miss alot of important issues.......
