  1. bump or pass - set - spike

  2. yes it is very good! i play travel and i spike in the front row. people get me the ball all the time and i just hit away.

  3. Yeah!! Definately.

  4. yes its good but you dont have to hit all the time... "smart playing" can get you the same amount of points wether its a tip, tool, or a 50/50 hit (not trying to kill the ball but putting it at a good spot). It saves your arm for future games.

  5. No. While some players are specifically attackers, who only play the front row and intentionally avoid passing by letting other players pass for them, but for every one else trying to spike the ball every time the ball comes to you is a bad idea.  The errors would be too common and your offense would be too weak.  If you try to spike an opponents attack you will have a very high rate of error, 95% or so at beginner to intermediate skill levels, and almost 100% at higher levels. While some serves are attackable, in general it's still too hard to attack serves.  Even if you manage to spike these balls, it will be a weak attack which will just give the opposing team another chance to score on you.  To take the serve and attack we use a pass, converting a hard to control ball into a easily controllable ball.  This ball is even attackable sometimes.  This still doesn't maximize your offense though.  Taking an opponents attack and putting it into the best attackable position is just too hard.  So we use a set to give hitters the best position they can to reduce their errors and increase their odds of getting a kill or forcing an opponents passing error.

While attacking every ball that comes to you may work against teams with exceptionally weak serves, poor passes and no offense, it will make you lose against any team beyond that.  Teams that use a pass, a set and an attack will beat teams that try to attack every ball that comes to them, with no doubt in my mind.  If you still have doubt, watch a good volleyball game (If you can find an olympic match, I'd watch it. They're pretty amazing), you should be able to see how the entire game of volleyball comes together and why volleyball players use the particular skills they do.

  6. Not necessarily. It depends what kind of spike and when you hit it.  Only hit it if you're the 3rd hit or it's a desperate case.  If another position (not player) could hit the ball better, set it to them on an angle.  But if you have to ask a question online, then i wouldn't think your scenario was a good one.

  7. It the ball is being set to you then, yes. If you are a hack and just pound the ball over the net regardless of hit count, no thats not good.

  8. yes i think so yeah

  9. if you spike the ball a lot well you get 1 point each spike so to my opinion i think yes

  10. for the most part yes.

but i must say, you have to be SMART!

dont spike the ball if its in an awkard spot, or if its to low, etc.

  11. if your getting points for your team i think so

  12. Generally speaking, yes. If you can hit the ball and score one point immediately, it is good (at least for you) :)

It depends on which position you are playing.

If you are the setter, you want to set up your spikers to hit. If you are the spiker, it is all good when the ball comes to you, even when it is not for the 3rd hit.
