  1. I hope it gets here soon.  Its cold up here

  2. It always bothers me that ppl associate Global warming with Al Gore.  The issue has been debated for decades and other than learning about it himself, he didnt discover it.  ppl often ask how could Brave new world or 1984 come about?  Gradually course, but also they never needed to engineer ppl to be less intelligent in teh first place.

    Silly logic

    I dont like Al Gore

    Al Gore pushes Global Warming

    I dont like Global Warming

    SIGH

    Goof

  3. Just 30 years ago they were talking about Global Cooling. These guys cannot even predict the weather right for the next 3 days, let alone the next 100 years.

Also, this past year, the temperature cooled 1 degree, ironically the same amount the alarmist have told us it has warmed over the past 100 years.

This is nothing but a socialist hoax to create more needs for governments to take control.

  4. Um no. If it was a hoax the UN would not be meeting and trying to head off the impending problem.

  5. No.

But the Iraq War is a hoax propagated by bush.

  6. Absolutely not!

This is an offer of more than "magic beans" as one poster with no data suggests. This is knowledge from respected, mainstream science.

  7. Just figured it out have you?

  8. No.

  9. Global warming is not a hoax. The hoax is that Al Gore has perpetuated the idea that global warming is man made. It is not. It is a naturally occurring phenomenon.

  10. yes

  11. I guess Al had to come up with something to top inventing the Internet and it looks like the man made Global warming crusade fills the bill .

However, There are many credible Scientist saying that the warming that has occurred is within the normal cycle of warming and cooling . there was a report of one place where a glacier had retreated and man made artifacts were found indicating that there had been people living there in the past before the glacier covered it

The claim that it is man made has turned out to be the most comprehensive ,most successful Global marketing campaign in history. Think of all the new products that have been developed or old products repackaged as green and sold at higher prices to combat "Global Warming".

Big Business has jumped on the band wagon and will do whatever it can to prolong the Hype

Edit:  Dana1981:  The sun shines on the earth all the time . The reason You don't see it at night is because of the earths rotation. It's still warming the earth on the other side ,that should result in fairly uniform warming ,sort of like a rotisserie .

  12. No. When the science goes against a person's beliefs about global warming they attack Al Gore. When the science supports a persons beliefs about global warming they talk about the science.

The regular news media talks about the science. The right wing news media continuously talks about Al Gore.

  13. Yes, and even worse is that Al Gore is a hoax propagated by the liberal media. How else could he be stretching his 15 minutes of fame so far?

  14. um no!!!!!!!!! if it were a hoax do you think polarbears would be dieing right now!?!? probably with help from you!

  15. No, that's an absurd and silly conspiracy theory.  Would the hoax have started in the early 1800s, the late 1800s, the early 1900s, or some other time in the long history of science behind greenhouse gas theory?  Here's how the American Institute of Physics summarizes the history of carbon cycle science:

    http://www.aip.org/history/climate/co2.h...

There's no sudden hype, it's just a long set of scientific studies building upon the previous knowledge and the new findings.

Any reasonably educated and open-minded person can see that:

    1) Global temperature is rising.  No temperature data sets disagree with the measured trend of 120+ years of global warming (or they'd be trotted out regularly in these discussions).  Zero.  Zilch.  Nada.  None.

    2) The 750°K temperature of Venus, with its atmosphere of 90% carbon dioxide, is strong evidence supporting greenhouse gas theory.

    http://www.ias.ac.in/resonance/Mar1996/p...

    3) It's been confirmed through carbon isotope analysis that mankind has increased CO2 levels significantly, as temperatures rose.

Since we know that CO2 can cause several hundred degrees of warming, since we've observed that mankind has increased CO2 and earth's temperature rose, and since we know that climate change can dramatically affect our food supplies, common sense dictates that we do something to moderate the cause.

Unfortunately the IPCC reports fail to accurately reflect scientists' views.  The process allowed countries with a clear agenda such as Saudi Arabia and the Bush Administration to edit the text:

"The scientific consensus most people are familiar with is the IPCC's "Summary for Policymakers" reports. But those aren't a majority opinion. Government representatives participate in a line-by-line review and revision of these summaries. So China, Saudi Arabia and that hotbed of denialism -- the Bush administration -- get to veto anything they don't like. The deniers call this "politicized science," suggesting the process turns the IPCC summaries into some sort of unscientific exaggeration. In fact, the reverse is true. The net result is unanimous agreement on a conservative or watered-down document.

    http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2008/0...

As a result, the emerging evidence tends to be worse than forecasted, indicating that the urgency and severity of the problem may be severely underestimated.

    - Three papers published after the IPCC reports concluded that sea level rise this century will be much higher than the IPCC reports:

"Instead of sea levels rising by about 40 centimetres, as the IPCC predicts in one of its computer forecasts, the true rise might be as great as several metres by 2100. That is why, they say, planet Earth today is in 'imminent peril.'"

    - One scientist forecasted last year that the Arctic could be nearly ice free by 2012.  That's dramatically sooner than past estimates.

    - There is a 50 percent chance Lake Mead will run dry by 2021 and a 10 percent chance it will run out of usable water by 2014...

    - One scenario examined by the Pentagon examines the possibility of food riots, anarchy, and possibly nuclear war by 2020.

In fact, the cost of food has skyrocketed in the past year and food riots have already started:

    http://www.climatechangenews.org/nFood.h...

    The World's Growing Food-Price Crisis - TIME

"Soaring prices of staples — which have risen about 75% since 2005, driven by growing demand, rising oil prices and the effects of global warming — have sparked riots in several countries, as people reel from sticker shock and governments scramble to feed their people."

Fresh records for price of wheat- BBC News

"Wheat prices have hit record levels as supplies dwindle, raising concerns about growing food inflation. Reports of a drought in Northern China, where most of the country's wheat is grown, also pushed prices higher. Extreme weather has already damaged crops in other parts of the world and US wheat inventories are expected to fall to their lowest level for 60 years."

Many other recent observations reveal that the IPCC has been underestimating impacts:

    - Since 2000, carbon dioxide emissions have grown faster than any IPCC model had projected.

    - The temperature rise from 1990 to 2005 -- 0.33°C -- was "near the top end of the range" of IPCC climate model predictions.

    - "The recent [Arctic] sea-ice retreat is larger than in any of the (19) IPCC [climate] models" -- and that was a Norwegian expert in 2005. Since then, the Arctic retreat has stunned scientists by accelerating, losing an area equal to Texas and California just last summer.

    - "The unexpectedly rapid expansion of the tropical belt constitutes yet another signal that climate change is occurring sooner than expected," noted one climate researcher in December.

Denialists like to state that we've been coming out of an ice age for some time, and that there's no evidence that current warming is unusual.  That's simply untrue:

New Research Confirms Antarctic Thaw Fears - Spiegel Online

    http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk...

"The paper also states that the thickness of the Pine Island Glacier has shrunk by an average of 3.8 centimeters annually over the past 4,700 years. Satellite measurements taken between 1992 and 1996, though, show a loss of 1.6 meters in thickness per year on the Pine Island Glacier -- a figure that represents 42 times the average melt of the past 4,700 years."

We have more than enough data to act on, and very little time to act on it to prevent massive damage to our global food supplies.

  16. Hey EMMA, the Polar Bear population has been increasing for the last 25 years.  Their population is healthy, the ice cap in the north was larger this year than last, and if it did melt the Polar Bear would do just fine, I guess that Al Gore forgot to mention that a Polar Bear can swim for 50 miles without any ill effect.  Just about everything in Al Gore's lying movie has been proven to be false.  The lie about Polar Bears was started to give the environmental socialists, who want to control everyones lives, the power to restrict any use of the polar regions to humans.

  17. So-called "global warming" has been very, very good to Algore.  He's made several million dollars off of this idea.

  18. The answer is yes!

However, I would prefer to use the term perpetuate. The term propagated, to me at least, means to raise or grow something, so in a way he has grown this whole mess into a larger mess.

Al Gore has jumped on this bandwagon for his own political and financial greed. He may well believe this bull.(After all, like most politicians he is struggling hard to get two braincells to function at the same time)

He has managed to perpetuate this myth however.

He is actually proud to prove to the world how arrogant and stupid he really is.

Much like 'Dana 1981.....' and some others.

The only 'saving grace' that Al Gore has that I can think of right now is that at least he is not George W. Bush!

  19. No, I doubt that much. He's an advocate of it, but it's pretty d**n clear that something odds going on naturally throughout the world if you're paying enough attention... whatever the h**l you want to call it hardly matters.

  20. no. Al Gore just tried to let everybody else know what the future is gonna be like.

  21. global warming exists there is to much pollution united states should join the Kyoto protocol and regulate carbon dioxide from cars. they advanced far in pollution control. but they need to do it to the factories as well. send a letter to bush and tell him he needs to help the environment.

  22. no its real

  23. I think by now the answer is ,  of course yes.

Any sane person can see the "global warming" folks are sellng "magic beans

More and more the data he tauted is being shown to be false or faked.

It is a scam by certain businesses to sell "green" products.  Al Gore gets a HUGE payoff from these companies.

  24. Yes it IS! ... THINK! ... Government contracts ... studies ... liberal college professors and scientists wanting government money ... THINK!

Just another example of buying votes with taxpayer dollars. Global Warming is a SCAM making algore more of a fool than Chicken Little. At least the sky falling would be a more current priority!

Besides, the winter of 2007-2008 is one of the WORST on record. Weather is cyclical and the sun holds the answer. Goes to explain why OTHER PLANETS have the same warming as EARTH ... Unless Greedy Bush and his oil cronies are trying to sell more oil by placing SUV's from Mars to Uranus ... hmm!

    CONSIDER THIS:

When I think of a 'pod', I think of whales and dolphins. While hardly a herd which conjures of a vision of a herd of buffalo, I don't know what to call just 6 or 7 seals? It is hard to count when seals are cavorting in the surf just a few hundred yards away from my home here on the shores of Lake Erie. It is so exciting now that the freshwater seals have returned ... proving that global warming has had little or no effect here.

  25. Absolutely. Al Gore has made this myth pay off big time. He has earned millions of dollars from the movie and also a company he owns which sells carbon credits.

He is not alone. The IPCC (which would cease to exist if the truth got out), many scientist, large corporations, etc. are using the myth of man made global warming to increase profits.

  26. No.  Al Gore has nothing to do with global warming, except that he made the science accessible to the public.

There are many basic scientific facts which can only be explained if the current global warming is being caused by an increased greenhouse effect due to carbon dioxide accumulating in the atmosphere from humans burning fossil fuels.

For example, the planet is warming as much or more during the night than day.  If the warming were due to the Sun, the planet should warm a lot more during the day when the Sun has influence.  Greenhouse gases trap heat all the time, so they warm the planet regardless of time of day.  Another example is that the upper atmosphere is cooling because the greenhouse gases trap the heat in the lower atmosphere.  If warming were due to the Sun, it would be warming all layers of the atmosphere.

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

We know it's warming, and we've measured how much:

    http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/science...

Scientists have a good idea how the Sun and the Earth's natural cycles and volcanoes and all those natural effects change the global climate, so they've gone back and checked to see if they could be responsible for the current global warming.  What they found is:

Over the past 30 years, all solar effects on the global climate have been in the direction of (slight) cooling, not warming.  This is during a very rapid period of global warming.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/62902...

    http://www.pubs.royalsoc.ac.uk/media/pro...

    A recent study concluded:

“the range of  [Northern Hemisphere]-temperature reconstructions and natural forcing histories…constrain the natural contribution to 20th century warming to be <0.2°C [less than one-third of the total warming].  Anthropogenic forcing must account for the difference between a small natural temperature signal and the observed warming in the late 20th century.”

    http://www.pnas.org/cgi/content/full/104...

You can see this in the third graph here, where the dotted lines are just from natural causes, and the full lines are natural + human causes:

    http://www.pnas.org/content/vol104/issue...

If that’s not enough to convince you the Sun isn’t responsible, consider the fact that no scientific study has ever attributed more than one-third of the warming over the past 30 years to the Sun, and most attribute just 0-10% to the Sun.

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

So the Sun certainly isn't a large factor in the current warming.  They've also looked at natural cycles, and found that we should be in the middle of a cooling period right now.

"An often-cited 1980 study by Imbrie and Imbrie determined that 'Ignoring anthropogenic and other possible sources of variation acting at frequencies higher than one cycle per 19,000 years, this model predicts that the long-term cooling trend which began some 6,000 years ago will continue for the next 23,000 years.'"

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milankovitc...

    http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/ab...

So it's definitely not the Earth's natural cycles.  They looked at volcanoes, and found that

    a) volcanoes cause more global cooling than warming, because the particles they emit block sunlight

    b) humans emit over 150 times more CO2 than volcanoes annually

    http://volcano.und.edu/vwdocs/Gases/man....

So it's certainly not due to volcanoes.  Then they looked at human greenhouse gas emissions.  We know how much atmospheric CO2 concentrations have increased over the past 50 years:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Mauna...

And we know from isotope ratios that this increase is due entirely to human emissions from burning fossil fuels.  We know how much of a greenhouse effect these gases like carbon dioxide have, and the increase we've seen is enough to have caused almost all of the warming we've seen over the past 30 years (about 80-90%).  You can see a model of the various factors over the past century here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Clima...

This is enough evidence to convince almost all climate scientists that humans are the primary cause of the current global warming.
