  1. is global warming real? yes it is. is it man caused? at this point i have to say no it is not. CO2 levels lag behind the rise in global temperatures, indicating that CO2 is not a factor in temperature rise. if we look at the geological record we will find that the planet has been much warmer in the past, as well as much cooler. we can also look at hte geological record and find that the climate has at times changed very slowly, and at other times changed very quickly. there are also very stable times. we are coming out of one of those stable periods, and moving into a time of global climate change. it is a natural event, and there is nothing we can do about it. all the hysteria surrounding global climate change is due to some who want a way to gain power, and control over large swaths of the worlds population.

if man made global warming was a truly dangerous and bad thing, then the kyoto and bali accords would have required ALL countries to limit CO2 and carbon emissions, and not just the developed countries. china and india would have to have met the same standards as europe, russia, and the US.

like any divisive issue where one side screams there is a major problem, follow the money. who is getting rich, and who is benefiting from the path of carbon taxes, and carbon credits. al gore and the UN thats who. also notice that during the time the planet was warming, and hitting the peak of hte current warming trend, the mid 90's in point of fact, you heard virtually NOTHING about global warming. once the democrats were out of power, THEN is when you started hearing about global warming, and the need to do something now before it becomes irreversible. this has been the mantra about every 30 or so years, going back and forth between global warming and global cooling. in fact an article was written about how we had to do somthing NOW about global warming or in 30 years it would be irreversible and the planet  would become unlivable. that article was written in 1895.

  2. It is actually happening. But it is such a minor thing that 99% of the people wouldn't even notice it unless there were told about it. There are people CLAIMING that it won't be minor much longer, but when you look at the actual scientific predictions in the IPCC report it still looks very minor to me even 100 years from now. But to listen to the TV and blogs and all, it would seem you had to be blind not to just see it. Of course when someone tells you that and you see nothing, you protest. That is why so many people don't believe it. That don't see the big changes the alarmists are talking about. Because they aren't there to see.

  3. The government lies to us so much these days its hard to believe anything they say anymore.I wouldn't say that "we" have caused these things I would say its more of just nature.

  4. I think it a crock of s*** it is all government stuff. they just want more $.

  5. There are many basic scientific facts which can only be explained if the current global warming is being caused by an increased greenhouse effect due to carbon dioxide accumulating in the atmosphere from humans burning fossil fuels.

For example, the planet is warming as much or more during the night than day.  If the warming were due to the Sun, the planet should warm a lot more during the day when the Sun has influence.  Greenhouse gases trap heat all the time, so they warm the planet regardless of time of day.  Another example is that the upper atmosphere is cooling because the greenhouse gases trap the heat in the lower atmosphere.  If warming were due to the Sun, it would be warming all layers of the atmosphere.

We know it's warming, and we've measured how much:

    http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/science...

Scientists have a good idea how the Sun and the Earth's natural cycles and volcanoes and all those natural effects change the global climate, so they've gone back and checked to see if they could be responsible for the current global warming.  What they found is:

Over the past 30 years, all solar effects on the global climate have been in the direction of (slight) cooling, not warming.  This is during a very rapid period of global warming.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/62902...

    http://www.pubs.royalsoc.ac.uk/media/pro...

    A recent study concluded:

“the range of  [Northern Hemisphere]-temperature reconstructions and natural forcing histories…constrain the natural contribution to 20th century warming to be <0.2°C [less than one-third of the total warming].  Anthropogenic forcing must account for the difference between a small natural temperature signal and the observed warming in the late 20th century.”

    http://www.pnas.org/cgi/content/full/104...

You can see this in the third graph here, where the dotted lines are just from natural causes, and the full lines are natural + human causes:

    http://www.pnas.org/content/vol104/issue...

If that’s not enough to convince you the Sun isn’t responsible, consider the fact that no scientific study has ever attributed more than one-third of the warming over the past 30 years to the Sun, and most attribute just 0-10% to the Sun.

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

So the Sun certainly isn't a large factor in the current warming.  They've also looked at natural cycles, and found that we should be in the middle of a cooling period right now.

"An often-cited 1980 study by Imbrie and Imbrie determined that 'Ignoring anthropogenic and other possible sources of variation acting at frequencies higher than one cycle per 19,000 years, this model predicts that the long-term cooling trend which began some 6,000 years ago will continue for the next 23,000 years.'"

    http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/ab...

So it's definitely not the Earth's natural cycles.  They looked at volcanoes, and found that

    a) volcanoes cause more global cooling than warming, because the particles they emit block sunlight

    b) humans emit over 150 times more CO2 than volcanoes annually

    http://volcano.und.edu/vwdocs/Gases/man....

So it's certainly not due to volcanoes.  Then they looked at human greenhouse gas emissions.  We know how much atmospheric CO2 concentrations have increased over the past 50 years:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Mauna...

And we know from isotope ratios that this increase is due entirely to human emissions from burning fossil fuels.  We know how much of a greenhouse effect these gases like carbon dioxide have, and the increase we've seen is enough to have caused almost all of the warming we've seen over the past 30 years (about 80-90%).  You can see a model of the various factors over the past century here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Clima...

This is enough evidence to convince almost all climate scientists that humans are the primary cause of the current global warming.

  6. Michigan just experienced the highest total snowfall in January and February that it has ever recorded.

January and February were among the coldest in our recorded history.

I got frostbite  on my toes walking out to our deer feeder in 18" of global warming.

I suspect that the Earth is warming as it does periodically and it is likely that we humans are contributing to that warming to some extent. It is also very likely that the Earth would be warming if there were no humans on it just as it has  through time immemorial. It is cyclical.

Gobal warming has become a major growth industry and lots of people are getting wealthy because of it.

The costs of supporting this vast industry which fights global warming is costing us dearly and the results will be sparse.

Scientists and Universities are spending a lot of time, money and effort figuring out where their next grants are coming from.

    They are coming from us.

  7. Global temperatures *were* rising - slightly - between about 1900 and 1940, and again from roughly 1970 to 2004.  From about 1940 to 1970, and ever since 2004, global average temperatures have been *falling* - the past year alone saw enough cooling to offset all global warming since 1900!  At the same time, global CO2 levels have continued to rise steadily.

The fact is that the planet has experienced fluctuations in temperature, both higher and lower than current levels, throughout its history.  This includes hundreds of millions of years in which humans didn't even exist.  There is little correlation with CO2 levels, a fact known to most global warming alarmists which they continue to deny or gloss over when it's pointed out to them.

Even within human history, we have experienced far greater fluctuations - both up and down - in average global temperatures, even as human 'greenhouse emissions' have continued to escalate throughout our time here.  And yet Florida has never flooded, the polar bears have survived, and humanity has survived without any of the climatic disasters foretold by alarmists.

Because most of the population has little scientific background and little knowledge of the facts, certain people in power have found 'global warming' to be a convenient means to frighten people into giving up their freedoms and economic well-being for the benefit of those same pundits.

  8. My best friend swears up and down to no end that it is a government hoax. She read a book called State Affair and now will never rest that Global Warming is a bunch of c**p and that this is just part of a natural earth cycle. Personally, I don't know either that is why I am glad you made this topic. I tend to lean with the government hoax since the American Government is so messed up and corrupt.

  9. The basis of global warming from what I heard is where the planet's temperature has increased by 1 degree Celsius.  And that 1 degree is enough to s***w up the ecosystem.

And that increase can s***w up the temperatures and weather patterns drastically.

There has been studies of the times of the Earth's hottest times, and all showed that there is a correlation of increased CO2 levels.

So the theory is that increased CO2 levels are going to trap in more heat, and that trapped heat is warming the planet by 1 degree, and that 1 degree is enough to s***w up the eco system and weather patterns.

It's a god awful movie, no plot, but The Day After Tomorrow said something about how that global warming can cause global cooling afterwards.  In fact, it is possible our global warming is going to cause our next ice age prematurely.

  10. The scientists say it is happening.

The oil industry says it's made up.

    Take your pick.

  11. Vixentwinkle, almost all the scientists whose field of study is actually climatology and atmospheric science agree that it is happening, though between them they debate the "how much?", "why?" and "what does it mean?".

Most of the evidence they have studied points to human emissions, which have risen massively and exponentially over the last couple of hundred years since the "industrial revolution" (a fact which is completely undeniable by anyone), being a significant factor. This doesn't mean they are the sole cause - just a significant factor.

Now let's look at the Government conspiracy angle. Since when have politicians, government workers, and university professors ever been able to keep their mouths shut or keep a big secret? Do you know any who can? I don't.

The answer is "never"! For example, even the deepest darkest defence secrets have eventually been sold to the Russians. For it to be a made-up conspiracy would require literally thousands of researchers and scientists and politicians to all be in on it - and not tell anyone or have anyone accidentally find out!

Which do you think is more likely?

  12. Global warming is real and the war on terror is a diversion.

  13. I think there is little doubt that it is happening.  The question is whether you want to believe it is due to man-made activities or just a natural cycle of the earth.

  14. Global Warming is true, there are Natural fazes but we are affecting that to a great extent ,with deforestation ,desertification and pollution., especially air pollution.

A few weeks ago one of NASA's top scientists concluded that the Arctic Ocean could be nearly ice-free within five years, much faster than all previous predictions.

when the north pole is gone , you may have polar bears soon in America ,looking for a home ,

Calculations do not include the accumulative ,speeding up ,factor with time. the increase in water temperature will get faster all the time as well as the melting, when the ice is all gone the deeper cold Ocean currents will be drastically affected, which in turn will affect the warm currents, since all moving bodies of water are connected in series.

This will affect coastal climates ,world wide ,almost instantly. All aquatic flora and fauna will be affected, many dying off and others becoming invasive,

And recently In Chiapas ,and Tabasco in Mexico .more then a million people became homeless overnight with water coming up to their roofs ,because of rains from super evaporation from the forests, this had never happened before. Millions of animals died.

In India 3000 people died because of super storms .

.A few years ago in Europe 3500 people, died during a heat wave ,many of them in France .

Right now the average death toll annually is 150.000 due to Global warming

. these figures are already out of date and are expected to double soon.

In Northern China millions of people are running for their lives because regular dust storms so far have buried 900 villages under the sand and the whole of northern China is turning into a dessert.

The Sahara is growing by 7 kilometers a year all around the edges ,like a slow burning fire shriveling up their neighbors In the Kalahari huge rivers have dried up and thousand of species are gone due to their habitats disappearing .

The biggest changes are invisible at micro biotic levels species are becoming extinct ,others are multiplying ,

This affects the insect populations that follow ,and changes in that ,affect all that follows in the food chains ,

All life is interrelated of both flora and fauna, And since we are on the top of the food chain ,

we are always the last to know.

So Global warming has its toll there are incidents all over the world ,

    However

confusion rules the day ,i am beginning to think that SCIENCE HAS BEEN INVADED WITH POLITICS AND HUMAN EMOTIONS

The truth is being distorted at high levels,

And lies have been weaved in.

Some of the real dangers are being hidden because there are no solutions , Public could panic.and Authorities would loose control .

Besides Corporations have other priorities and changes will cause loss of profits ,this also affects the truths being published

Others facts are exaggerated so that the phenomena can be used to milk the people.

This is further complicated with Arrogance that will not admit that mankind could be guilty, or that Gods could be out of control ,unloving or incompetent

But I do not think we can make a real difference anymore to change the tide.

On a Global scale,Humanity is not co operative enough .

The poor regions have other priorities such as daily survival.

There is a lot we can do about being more responsible with what we got ,

In the first world countries many do not care or are more interested in Global Control than Global Warming.
