Question:

Is global warming becoming a global scapegoat?

The devastation caused by the typhoon that swept across Myanmar is being blamed on global warming. In a recent interview with National Public Radio, Al Gore said,

[W]e’re seeing consequences that scientists have long predicted might be associated with continued global warming.[i]

But is that true? Is “global warming” causing natural disasters, such as typhoons and hurricanes?

  1. Yes-- global warming is linked to extreme weather.

Wikipedia has a decent article about global warming effects: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Effects_of_...

  2. U are on track it is just hype so the Left can ask for more tax. The green house gas I can not find any significant increase. Without green house how can there be GW.

  3. Whenever there is loss of life from natural disasters, there is an engineering or management failure.  There is no reason for a house to blow over in a typhoon.  If Burma had proper building standards, there would likely be no fatalities, like when a typhoon hits a developed country.

Blaming the climate is missing the obvious problem.

  4. Al Gore invented global warming just like the internet, that's why he likes to blame everything on global warming so he can take credit for it too.  The real cause of global warming is all the hot air Al Gore spills out of his mouth.

The truth is there is a lot we still don't know about the earth's climate.  Anyone who says otherwise is full of c**p.  There were swings in temperature long before man came along and before we reached our current level of technology.  The earth's temperature has not always been constant.  There have been warming and cooling periods long in the past.

  5. chris_rob00112233 I have to agree with you. There are a lot of other problems we should focus on. Like air pollution, water pollution, poverty and lots of others. Global warming may sound dangerous, but the real danger is our attitude towards solving the problems. Now back to your question...

according to this website : http://www.americanpolicy.org/un/thereis...

    it says:

There is no evidence whatsoever to support such claims. Anyone who tells you that scientific research shows warming trends - be they teachers, news casters, Congressmen, Senators, Vice Presidents or Presidents - is wrong. There is no global warming.

Scientific research through U.S. Government satellite and balloon measurements shows that the temperature is actually cooling - very slightly - .037 degrees Celsius.

A little research into modern-day temperature trends bears this out. For example, in 1936 the Midwest of the United States experienced 49 consecutive days of temperatures over 90 degrees. There were another 49 consecutive days in 1955. But in 1992 there was only one day over 90 degrees and in 1997 only 5 days.

Because of modern science and improved equipment, this "cooling" trend has been most accurately documented over the past 18 years. Ironically, that's the same period of time the hysteria has grown over dire warnings of "warming."

Changes in global temperatures are natural. There is no proof that temperature is affected by anything that man has done.

In fact, recent severe weather has been directly attributed to a natural phenomenon that occurs every so often called El Nino. It causes ocean temperatures to rise as tropical trade winds actually reverse for a time.

The resulting temperature changes cause severe storms, flooding and even draught on every continent on earth.

It's completely natural. El Nino has been wreaking its havoc across the globe since long before man appeared.

How about the reports that the polar ice cap is melting?

Well, yes it is. In fact, it has been for about a million years or so. We are at the end of the ice age in which ice covered most of North American and Northern Europe.

There's at least one environmentalist, named Al Gore, who is panicking over the possibility that we may soon lose Glacier National Park in Montana because the ice is melting.

One hates to tell him that we've already lost the glacier that used to cover the whole country.

Perhaps he'll want to start working for new regulations from the Interior Department to begin immediately restoring this lost historical environmental treasure. Re-establishing a sheet of ice covering the entire continent would certainly serve to stop mining, timber cutting and urban sprawl.

The truth is, someday humans may be able to take tropical vacations at the North Pole - and it will be perfectly natural.

    AND FOR THE BLEACHING CORALS

    could be from:

*increased solar irradiance (photosynthetically active radiation and ultraviolet band light)

*changes in water chemistry (in particular ocean acidification)

*increased sedimentation (can be contributed to silt runoff)

    *pathogen infections

    *changes in salinity

I personally do not care that much about global warming. It seems like a real macro issue, but to me focusing on global warming alone is a very micro thing to do. It totally overshadows the overarching problem of pollution. Pollution in general imposes great external costs on society that must be internalised.

Even if global warming is true, would this reduce the gallons of acid rain that fall on the earth every year? Would it cut the number of people who suffer from cancers and ailments caused by our blatant disregard for the impact of our actions on the environment?

Would it make the extreme poor richer?

  6. Global warming is affecting many things. Frogs are disappearing, corals are being bleached, ice shelfs are melting. These are facts. Our earth is a delicate balance of eco systems are we such fools that we don't think what we are doing has an impact? If I pour coke a cola into my fish tank eventually its going to kill my fish isn't it? Politicians are the very ones who were denying it and calling it 'climate change' till recently. Anyone who says it isn't happening most likely has some financial or continued comfort to gain from human beings continuous greed and plunder. Environmentalists on the other hand have nothing to gain by maintaining that Global Warming is real except to save us from ourselves.

  7. It is a scam created by the government. Also, the government controls weather for their convenience.

    My 2 cents.

  9. Yes, yes it has. Why not you visit www.numberwatch.co.uk for a complete list? It has listed over 600 things blaming global warming.

  10. I do find some try to blame everything on GW, but that doesn't take away from the science. You will find extremes on both sides. As to whether GW will cause stronger and/or more frequent hurricanes is still being debated.
