Is global warming real? (There's more to my question see details. Skeptics of global warming welcome!)?

Question

My belief is that the belief in a god(s) is some how related to the belief or disbelief of global warming.

You can always opt to not divulge your personal information but it would be helpful for me to know what you believe in. A sample response would be like:

dont know if God exists, certainly not traditionally religious. I find the idea that we call it fact that man made global warming is occuring to be a joke. Scientists are jumping on the bandwagon. The earth has been around for millions of years, we have been around for a couple thousand, written record is pretty recent, we don't know the cycles of the earth, we don't understand them. We don't know if gases are leaking out of the earth and causing it, the bottomline is we just don't know. I agree with those that mock supposed proof of man made global warming, but I don't see the harm in attempting to protect ourselves.

yes. it is real. i am not anything; im not atheist but not religious. i dont know what to think. so my decision with global warming has nothing to do with it.

there are so many factors and it has been such a dramatic change that it seems ridiculous to think it's just natural fluctuation. it seems to me that people who are so set on denying it are just set on leading their normal, comfortable lives.

Oh yes- the sacred global average temperature graph. Let us all bow down and worship it!!

How exactly do they measure the average temperature of  8 billion cubic kilometres of atmosphere, not to mention the 1 billion cubic kilometres of the earth's oceans?? Look out your window: do you see any scientists measuring the air temperature??

Anyone can come up with an estimate, yet how accurate is their estimate. Let's say that the error is +-10%. That works out to.. uh ..er,,  0.10 * 285 kelvin or +- 29 K or +-29 C. This makes the claimed increase of 0.8 K or C a bit meaningless.

I personally think it's not.

The Earth has been known to go through cycles. Plus if the government really wanted to stop global warming they'd stop using all of these military programs. The government alone puts more pollution into the air then the American people (i don't know about other countries.)

People don't realize how many rights we have lossed. Plus with people not learning the laws of America the government has in some cases completely ignored the law.

If I told you right know that an Orange cures all disease the FDA would come into my house with guns drawn and arrest me for selling a drug without a license.

So I think this is just another government scam. trying to gain more power by taking away our right to supposedly "protect us."

As you can see, global warming is well outside the margin of error (+/- 0.05 deg C - not quite 29 degrees).

Also, you can't calculate an error in Kelvin and pretend it's the same value in Celsius.  That was a really gross misuse of (unnecessary) unit conversions.  If you'd been in my class back when I was a physics TA, I would have flunked you for that.

When you make an argument like that, you shouldn't be calling other people half-wits.

Yes! Global Warming is real! Penguins are dieing because iceburgs are melting. Krills are gone. Everything will die down in Antartica. In the North Pole, the ice is melting for polar bears and it's getting hotter by the second! Half of the ice up in the North Pole is now gone!

I am a Christian and according to the Bible God entrusted us to take care of the earth He made. But we abused the beauty and the luxury it gave us. If global warming isn't true then why are we suffering from different environmental catastrophes?

I don't believe in global warming because I think it's a conspiracy by communists to destroy our economy, or some government scam.  Therefore, I'm not going to believe anything that scientists say.  I am, after all, so much smarter than the scientists, that I know things like this.

I also don't understand the science behind how they measure the earth's temperature, and how they get their graphs. It just doesn't make sense how they can know that.  If I don't understand something, that means that it doesn't make sense, and so global warming must be a hoax.

I get that feeling also. Many of the 'deniers' on here even use the Bible to back up their wacky claims!
