Question:

Is global warming the end of the world?

Or is it the end of a bunch of people who want to be remembered in history for good deeds?

Anxiety over an irreversible change in the natural world (uncaused by humans) replaces the dread a person feels about their own personal death. They want to be remembered for something and pick "saving" the planet.

This is why AGW is never as important to a person who believes in G-d. Note that many mediocre scientists are either atheist or agnostic, often leading them towards this loony cult.

  1. The earth's in orbit 'round the sun

    Rotating on it's axis,

Another thing for which Al Gore

Would dearly love to tax us.

It's not the end of the world.  There's no scientific evidence to back up the claims of the agw crowd.  They're running on empty in the scientific world.

The politics behind agw are what drives the theory.  It's well funded, hyped, and Al Gore is totally dishonest and out to deceive and corrupt people.  He wants your money and will make up any reason to get it.

  2. yes.

  3. The planet will probably get by just fine if we don't manage to turn it into Venus, it's been through far worse than we could possibly put it through (including a collision with a Mars sized object).

Of course that isn't to say that humans can't cause changes in the environment (we are causing the current global warming trend) and there will be some pretty serious problems from global warming, the fact that it is happening faster than any natural global warming (one of the reasons we know it to be not-natural) does give cause for concern as to how well the ecosystem will cope since we can't just assume it'll be like the natural ones.

"This is why AGW is never as important to a person who believes in G-d. Note that many mediocre scientists are either atheist or agnostic, often leading them towards this loony cult."

Actually, elite scientists are more likely to be atheist or agnostic than the general population or even the rest of the scientific community (which is still considerably less theistic than the general population).

Besides, those who believe there is a world after this one that will be better than what we've got have less of a reason to make this world as good as it can be while those who realise that there is no afterlife, no heaven and h**l tend to be more likely to turn this world into heaven than wait for some posthumous reward.

"People die of starvation in poor countries b/c of the corrupt governments in charge, not sins of rich countries."

It seems you are replying to Bob there, whilst it is true that much of the problem with the third world is bad government he didn't seem to be referring to now but when the problems start to occur really bad.  Rich countries have the money and resources to spend on mitigation so they'll manage to adapt to the changed climate (and probably won't suffer too badly) while poor countries won't have the money to do so and will suffer pretty badly.

  4. i think that most of what you hear about global warming is propaganda

  5. no, The world end in 2 billion years when andromeda galaxy  collides with the milky way galaxy.

  6. Your entire premise is off base, futile and irrelevant. Why? Because there is no scientific evidence anywhere that shows even just one legitimate example that global warming exists and it is nothing more than propaganda, speculation, and the people who are pushing this down the throats of the Global community are quickly developing into a global warming cult which consists of large media players and outlets, political leaders, diplomats, Hollywood elite and it amazing that this fraud has taken a foothold. Any decrease in the size of the polar icecap and the icecap in Greenland this year is new and is 100% attributed to the underwater volcanic activity under the ocean in that region which was recently been discovered; yet with a nice media "black out" on the subject. In fact, the temperature of the globe is normal and in some regions, the lowest it has been in years in China and that part of the hemisphere. China has experienced tremendous snow and rain and flooding activity this year. Further, Mt Rainer, Washington's glacier has grown this year, not decreased and even California has a newly developed glacier do to it heavy rainfall this year in Northern California. NASA has said unequivocally that it would take 50 years from this date forward to come up with any data to determine whether or not there is any indication of global warming or to the contrary. The leading scientist for the "Weather Channel" is considering filing a Federal Law Suit against Al Gore for his propaganda of non-scientific fact which Al Gore sites within his fanatical book and in his cheesy propaganda movie. I suggest you do a little more research on the subject of global warming before you post something such as this and you need to listen to the real and credible scientists who do the research on such subject matter and the link below is a good start for you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Spencer...

  7. What I think is going to happen eventually is that a lot of people politicians and major corporation executive who are funding and promoting this scam are going to lose their assets and be tossed in jail for a very long time, maybe in the case of some of the older ones like Jimmy Carter life.

One of the dumbest things the AGW promoters have suggested is the idea of collecting and sequestering Co2 in underground reservoirs. One clear piece of knowing real science instead of voodoo science the AGW promoters use is this. Each Co2 molecule contains one carbon atom and two oxygen atoms. The plants use it for food and we humans and our animal companions need that oxygen to breathe. If we sequester that Co2 under ground we remove oxygen from the air we breath which means we will eventually run out of it as the idiotic AGW promoters wish and then they will bring the sequestered material back up and sell us the oxygen atoms to keep us alive.

So the scam is looking generations ahead in ways to profit now and profit more in the far future from those who follow media hype and do not look for truth and facts. As one great man once said, there is a new sucker born every minute so I will never starve.

  8. well not the end of the world but it is killing our polar bears and penguins we need to save those animals! they help us in many ways some how your guys that dont belive are jerks!!!!!

  9. No, global warming (more appropriately called 'global climate change') will not destroy the world.  Whether or not it will kill all the humans on it is an entirely different question.  I don't believe it will do that, either, although I certainly believe the days of our comfortable consumer culture existence is numbered.  I don't believe the coming disaster can be averted, and if I could make a wish for it to be avoided, I wouldn't.  We are over-populating this planet, and I think Mother Nature is soon to let us know what she thinks of that.

I wonder, though, from where you get your data about "many scientists".  I actually KNOW a few scientists.  One is an organic chemist, and the other two are physicists.  I've never asked them what their position on religion is (as this is a rude question), but I've never heard any of them espouse anti-religious rhetoric.  I think you may be confused on a certain point.  The goal of science isn't to destroy religion.  No part of real science says there is no God.  Instead, it's position is "As God can neither be proven nor disproven, we will not discuss the matter further."  That's it.  Interviews I have seen with some of the more-public figures in the scientific community have said many times that they are very religious people, and that they believe that God wants us to strive to understand our own existence.  I'm hard-pressed to find anything wrong with that.

Somehow, I think all the other answerers who don't believe in global climate change have pursued few if any facts on the subject, or have only received facts from those with an agenda.  I've researched both sides of the issue.  Those who speak out against the possibility of a coming disaster rarely use real science to back up their claims, only "common sense" or psuedo-science.

  10. Nope, but it is something well worth avoiding.

It won't be a Hollywood movie style disaster. Gradually coastal areas will flood and agriculture will be damaged. But it will be very bad. Rich countries will cope, but it will take huge amounts of money. In poor countries many people will die of starvation, but not all of them.

  11. global warming is a fraud!!

  12. We would all be dead if it was not for Al Gore. He is Greaaaaaaaat

  13. No it's not the end of the World. Even though msny ppl keep saying how dangerous it is and stuff ppl are making too big of a deal. Ya, some big icebergs are melting becuase of the polluted air, but thats not gong to kill us all. We should cut down on letting pollutants into the air, but our waste is doing a lot less damage then they say it is. Anyway, God chooses when the last day will be.

  14. maybe in the year 1,580,000

  15. No, It is not the end of the world. If you look over the grand spectrum of the history of the world we find that climate changes are normal. Will it change our way of living on this planet, very possibly, but I think man is giving himself way to much credit for causing it, or even being able to stop it.
