  1. I am an experience herbalist, I have many way of treating knee problem but glucosamine is something I heard many people swear by it. So I

gave glucosamine to my mother-in-law and her knee pain got worst it swell up. She had to walk with a stick.  At that time I did not attribute glucosamine to be the cause.

RecentIy I gave some to my wife less than the recommended dosage and her knee swell up after a week.  She has worser pain.

This is not an allergic reaction because both case cause knee condition to worst, and  Allergic reaction will show up on the skin anywhere in the body not only the knee, and different symptoms.

How could they(Dr) said  there are no side effects.?

Even homeopathy remedy are know for no side effects have side effects.

I have heard from other forum that it was too high dosage..

Rule of thumb there is side effect from anything you digest depending on the dosage. And the recommended dosage is usually high .

You can check other answers.yahoo.com and knee swelling is a known sife effects.

  2. Well the glucosamine is not going to cure your joint issues, it's just going to prevent them from becoming worse.

  3. It is safe for you, and it will over a long period of time help to rebuild the cartilage in your knee. It will take for the average store brand about 3 months before you start to notice a difference. Make sure the supplement does not use sodium as a binder because as you may know salt causes water retention and that is the last thing someone with joint problems needs is fluid retention. I have been taking it for a couple of years and the patented version I use works fast and is cheap but can only be gotten by delivery.

  4. Glucosamine is a lubricant for your knee. It won't hurt it.
