Question:

Is going for a walk while carrying weights as bad for you as people tell me?

I am tired of being over weight and nothing has worked so I started going for walks carrying 3lb weights in each hand. A friend of mine told me that this was doing more harm than good. It really makes me feel like I worked out a lot harder when I get home but am now worried about hurting myself. Any input is greatly appreciated.

  1. well that really isnt gonna do anything but make your arms stronger.

try putting on weight belts around your ankles and walking like that.

it will make your legs work harder.

and it will hlep slim your legs down and build muscle.

and it will help the rest of you body to.

but you can walk with the weights too.

    try alternating.

like mon. wed. and friday, wear the weight belts.

    tues &thurs,walk with the dumbells.

    so then everything gets worked

    good luck(:

&&if anything, consult your doctor.he'll be able to tell you if it is hurting you or not.

  2. Three pounds won't hurt you at all - and I doubt that they'd do much good either. They're a small percentage of your total weight.

Walking is a great idea, though. Try picking up your pace to a speed walk or power walk, and try walking a little longer each time. Then move on to other exercises if you can.

  3. Don't worry about it.  Carrying 3 pounds in each hand isn't going to do any harm.

Remember you see Strongmen running with 100s of pounds in each hand while training and in competition.  It doesn't do any harm to them.

  4. The reason people say not to carry weights is because it can put extra strain on your joints. If you don't have problems with your knees or anything, then walking with weights is fine. If you want to make it more effective, do actual arm exercises while walking (bicep curls, lateral raises).

  5. No,i don't think so.

  6. well instead you should buy some hand weights which you can strap around your arms..and some ankle weight you can strap around your ankle.they also sale weighted vests that can go up to 80 pounds

  7. No you are fine, but a better thing would be a weight belt.

  8. Nope, you're fine. It just builds up the arm muscle though. I suggest getting wrist weights since you don't really have to carry them or ankle weights if you want to shape your legs. They make me feel great when I finish.
