  1. Could be, but if it makes you feel better why not?

  2. The most u can do is to plant a large plant which can remove the CO2 and give us more oxygen.

  3. well is sort of is. we cant get everyone to go green.  scientist already say we've used up more than 50% of our oil supply. and if we keep heading that way in 40 years, theres going to be no more oil. but see if we use alternative resources then oil company's are going to be hit hard.and plus using alternative resources can have some problems. using solar panels requires large amounts of space. the space we dont have. using hydro power would back up rivers and kill of many fish. so i would say its a waste of time... but its necessary to a point

  4. mostly yes. at the rate we're going it's gonna take a lot more than turning of a couple lights that's gonna save the planet...

  5. It depends on what you mean by going "green".

Putting up solar panels is a waste of time and effort.

Turning down your thermostat and shutting off lights you don't need isn't a waste of time and effort.

  6. Your efforts might seem to you like they are minimal, yet remember the saying, "Every little bit helps"?  Believe it.

I hope you will continue !

  7. no, its worth it for the cost savings alone. i dont mean just recycling, but reducing your use and your waste of energy and stuff.

  8. I believe so.

I don't fall for every "cause" that comes down the pike.

I have always used low wattage bulbs , buy in bulk when possible , keep the thermostat low..etc

I shop at the goodwill whenever possible , and I do this to save money , not the planet.

    I won't litter because I'm not a jerk.

    I also shun fashion.

If you think about it , fashion means , throw your stuff away and buy more stuff. Is this environmentally friendly ?

  9. going green is not a waste of effort, because at the end we all are going to suffer if we don't take care of it. The problem is that still millions of people that they think that is ok to waste and they don't care about the consequences, but if we ALL do it our lives will change, we'll be healthier, and we'll live longer.

Because we won't suffer the damages but our sons will and be have to care about then and start NOW.

  10. Green Living?  There are a lot of different definitions of "Green".  The platitudes are all over everybody’s mouths but nobody’s really doing it.  I am and have been for over 10 years.  I have 5 acres in the Pacific NW woods. I don’t have a well, I collect rain and snow run off from all the buildings and store it in 1000 gallon tanks and an above ground pool for use during the summer, even supporting a small garden.  I raise and can most of my own food and bake my own bread, (saving a fortune), and I haven’t had a cold since 2004.  All lights (accept soalr yard lights) are turned off after bed time, The only electric appliances are high efficiency fridge, freezer, TV, and computer. I run shop power tools with a portable generator just so the power company won’t get the money. My monthly elec bill runs around $30. I heat with wood in a high efficiency wood stove (no ash, never have to clean the chimney, never smokes).  Use 100 gallons propane a year for water heating and cooking.  I have 2 motorcycles and a 35 mpg Toyota pickup.  I recycle all cans, bottles, and paper products,  I only spend about $40 a month for gas (even at $3.50 a gal).  If everyone lived like me Exxon (don’t forget the boycott) and all the other energy hemorrhoids would have died out years ago….  The entire “energy crisis” is in fact a contrived monopoly to suck more revenue from the public.  ANYBODY can live like this even if they have a house lot in town…..but  how many do?

  11. I don't think it's a waste of time or effort.

Environmental problems have been around for ages and have had a huge impact on societies.  Some historians believe that a large contributor to the fall of Rome was the lead pipes used for the water supply making everyone dumb and crazy.  Filthy living conditions and poor waste disposal made the black plague possible.  Even today, you have Olympic athletes training with air filtration masks because of the terrible pollution in Beijing (have you seen pictures of Beijing lately?  If not, click on the link below).  Pollution affects everybody.

Besides, it doesn't take that much effort to recycle, especially if your area has curbside pickup.  Mining aluminum is expensive and uses a lot of resources, and a lot of aluminum comes from other countries like Russia and Australia.  Why would we send money over to other countries when we have the materials right here in our own country in pure form?  Same goes for plastic and the oil which is used to make that.  We already have it here; why are we paying other countries for it?

    Buy American!  Recycle!

  12. I believe every little bit helps. If enough people do a little something it will end up being a big something.

  13. Your question is an oxymoron.  Going green=eliminating waste.  In a pure 'environmental economics' perspective, going green will factor into the economy all of the externalities (polution, waste, ect.) that are not included in our current economic system.  One beautiful thing about economics is that when we have a correct system that says 'yes there is an economic cost for pollution, waste, ect and factors those costs into our economy' going green wins!

The fact is is that when, as we are now, we have an economy that pushes those external costs onto society, society is getting stolen from.  Somebody somewhere has to pay for pollution, waste, ect.  How things are now is that society pays those cost, not poducers.

If what I just said above would happen in our economy then organic products would be cheaper than regular products and alternative energy would be cheaper than oil & coal.

Remember when we have pollution and waste we are discarding energy.  We do this everyday, It's obvious that we need to evolve.

  14. Its not a waste of time and effort, why any one would think improving the quality of life for themselves or their family was a waste of time it absoutely beyond me. Not to mention the whole economy crisis atm

Thats all I have to say on this for now, too much to really go into more detail for no one to really listen :(

I absoutely agree with Sad Man. :(

  15. It saves me lots of money with very little effort or inconvenience and my gf thinks what I do is great.

  16. yeah, for example, look at residential recycling.  It doesn't amount to much when you see how much corporations waste on paper and other pollutants they allow into the air or water.
