Question:

Is going "green" the true problem?

Think about it, Al Gore introduced the global warming concept and made billions of dollars off of this theory. He bought a billion dollar plain that burns hundreds of gallons of gas and he isn't really green himself anyway! millions of dollars have been given to car companies with their green cars, and we are waisting our money on these things. Going green seems to be a money scam to buy you out of your money - to spend it on "green" items.

Is it a money scam? convince me otherwise

  1. No, it's not a money scam.  For example, solar power do not release any emissions that go to the atmosphere mix with the couds and drop acid rain on forests and destroy wild life, trees and contaminate drinking water.

Going green is working with nature and not against it like coal generated electricity, which release emission in the clouds and causes serious problems and you should think about the emissions that cars release into the atmosphere because it's the same process as any technology releasing toxic gasses into the atmosphere.

Coal mining causes severe erosion, resulting in the leaching of toxic chemicals into nearby streams and aquifers, and destroys habitants.

    * About two-thirds of sulfur dioxide, one-third of carbon dioxide emissions and one quarter of the nitrogen oxides emissions in the U.S. are produced by coal burning.

    * Coal burning also results in the emission of fine particles matter into the atmosphere. Nitrogen oxide and fine airborne particles exacerbate asthma, reduce lung function and cause respiratory diseases and premature death for many thousands of Americans.

    * Smog formed by nitrogen oxide and reactive organic gases causes crop, forest and property damage. Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides both combine with water in the atmosphere to create acid rain. Acid rain acidifies the soils and water killing off plants, fish, and the animals that depend on them.

    * Global warming is mainly caused by carbon dioxide emissions and is responsible for at least half of the warming.

Hope this helps because if we keep the way where going and doin't go green than climate changes are going to get catestrophic, more diseases and we eventually will burn ourselves up.  The generations to come will suffer from our destructive behavior.  AND THAT'S NOT FAIR TO THEM!

No ozone=untraviolent rays hitting this planet.

Plant life and trees destroyed?  You do the math!

  2. Al Gore didn't introduce the Global Warming concept, he just gave it a platform that the average American could understand.

Going Green and Global Warming aren't necessarily the same thing. I don't know if the scientists are right or wrong and frankly by the time we know for sure it would likely be too late to do anything about it. Instead I focus on the undesputed truths that being finite resources and pollution.

I chose to live a more sustainable life because it is better for my health and the environment. I try to buy my food as close to home as is practicle, this is becoming easier to do as others are also supporting our local agriculture. I chose to be as energy efficient without suffering, I line dry clothes, turn my thermostat up to 80 during the summer down to 65 in winter. I maintain my weather strip, use natural day light, heating and cooling. I'm installing solar PV panels and with the rebates I got I'll get a return on my investment in less than 6 years. I buy recylced items as much as possible.

All of these changes and others that I've made have saved my family a lot of money. Some items had an initial investment, but most have a paid for themselves in just a few months.

  3. i think so. idk who to trust.

  4. You've hit upon what's becoming known as "greenwashing"... the whole idea of going green is to REDUCE your impact - that means you buy less and consume less, and of what you must buy and consume, you try to get the product that causes the least harmful side effects.

Other respondents have illustrated the harms our environment is facing. And its certainly true Al Gore is the poster boy of the movement, but no saint.  But he deserves an enormous amount of credit for awakening people to these problems, if not for his personal efforts to fix it.

As "going green" becomes more trendy, can you blame a business (whose job is to sell stuff) for trying to get in on it? Buy t-shirts (made with polyester in China by children) with a recycling logo!  Buy Clorox's latest "green cleaning" product line. Buy 46 new reusable shopping bags (made of plastic polymers)! Buy a new high MPG car when your old one was working perfectly well! Buy! Buy!  I got a page-a-day calendar for Christmas featuring Green Living tips each day - but the paper wasn't recycled, and the plastic backer wasn't recyclable!

Sure, it all makes me a little ill, but I still think that raising awareness is part of the solution, too.  I hope that people like you will look at this and come to the conclusion that there IS a problem, but one thing we can't afford to do is buy our way out of it.  Going green isn't the problem, but buying green might well be.

  5. The only billion dollar plane I know of is the stealth bomber.   All Goor didn't introduce the global warming concept, and has not made billions off it (maybe many millions).   Sounds like your rant is with gore, who I don't give a squat about.      How is buying a car that gets 40 mpg waisting your money instead of buying a vehicle that gets 10 mpg?   Drive 40 miles and thats a $13.00 difference.   Drive 12,000 miles a year and its a huge difference.   Going green sounds like a money maker for me and anyone else who does it reasonably.

  6. The problem is big industries find a way to profit out of everything and anything. Yes some things are a money scam that they say will improve the environment. However the actual idea of going green is not the true problem. We as the 'little people' cannot change the way the world works as people pay each other out to save their businesses (for example fuel industries/ car sales etc)  But people can still 'go green' in their own ways. Saving water, recycling, reusing, saving power and even finding out how to make your car more fuel efficient. Some people have made their cars basically run off water (hard to believe but true). Its their ideas that should be profited from and endorsed, however they are just paid out like every other idea that threatens big world industries. Going green doesn't have to break the bank. It really doesn't have to cost you anything. In term it could save you money.
